Anchorage for a day…!
 

My wife and I are coming in for a fishing trip this summer and will have one day to spend in Anchorage before that. Should we head up to Talkeetna and check out the shops and the view of Denali? Or head down towards Seward and check out Portage glacier or…? What do you recommend for a single day? We will have a rental car.

No, I'd head to Whittier and do a "26 Glacier" cruise. It's an ideal day trip from Anchorage and will feel like you've jumped into the deep end of the Alaska pool, if you get my meaning. The drive down Turnagain Arm to Portage (from which the tunnel takes you to Whittier) is iconic, and the wildlife and glacier scenery on the cruise is fab.
