Anchorage area, fly fishing, charter boat fishing and viewing brown bear, etc.
I'm going to be in the anchorage area from June 18th-June28. to run the maraton on the 22nd. My parents are flying in from Maine. I'm interested in finding a small charter boat to go halibut fishing, reasonable price guide to fly fish with for a day on a river and of course, a cost effectibe way to see a grizzlie(s). I'm open to renting a car and traveling outside of anchorage to accomplish this. if anyone also knows of (rustic) recommendation to stay go i'll gladly take it!!!!!
Open to any alaska fyi, 2cents etc...
thanks for your response(s)

hmmm.... my reply went away.
Okay, pete... There is a reasonable chance to accomplish two of your hopes in the same outing during that time window.
Rent a car and head to Talkeetna to fish with Mahay's. Both king salmon and rainbow should be available at that time. And, because you will be in grizzly country, seeing one (or more) is not at all out of the question. If you don't see any bears, both Talkeetna Air and K2 Aviation are also in Talkeetna and provide flightseeing.
Halibut charters are all over on the Kenai Peninsula. You can try out of Homer, Seward, Deep Creek, or wherever...... all offering good fishing generally.
Each of these side trips will take all of a day if not two.
Good luck!

Wow, imagine catching a 50lb king salmon on a fly fishing line! I would also suggest you head down to the Kenai Peninsula. In and around Cooper Landing there is excellent fly fishing for rainbow trout. I would recommend Alaska Rivers Company out of Cooper Landing. For halibut, I would head to either Seward or, better yet, Homer.

Pete, I don't have their number, but they should be members of either the ACVB, or ATIA www.anchorage.net www.alaskatia.org respectively.
I believe their web site is www.mahaysriverboat.com
