Anchorage Alaska top must do ro see while there-help, your opinion is needed!

Hi

My hubby wants to know if there is anything he must see or do when he is in Anchorage in a few weeks. He is excited to go but will only be ther for the day. Any must do's or must see's or must eats in this city. ANy advice on what to bring besides the usual stuff. Whenever I ask on Fodors websites I always get great suggestions on places to go that I have never heard of so we thought we would try it again. So what are your top 5??

Thanks for your time

With only one day in Anchorage, the Alaska Native Heritage Center <http://www.alaskanative.net/> is pretty interesting. It would definitely be on my list of things to do. Figure 2-3 hours to see it properly.

I love Alaska :-) If I could go back to Anchorage only for 1 day This is what I would do. Portage Glacier/Alyeska As long as he has a full day. This tour is 7 hours.

Looks of options, depending on time:

1) Flightsee out of Lake Hood in a float plane. They also have fly out fishing.

2) Rent a a car and head to Portage Glacier, Girdwood, Alyeska -- same as the tour but it's better on your own -- you can stop and watch the sheep and maybe even whales along Turnagain Arm. East at the Double Musky in Girdwood.

3) Heritage Center

4) A super ambitious type could drive to Talkeetna and flightsee Denali..

Although rentals cars can be pricey, the roads are good and it's hard to get lost.

5) If he's a hiker there is a great variety from strenuous alpine workouts like Bird Ridge or Flattop Mt -- or light hiking like the Coastal Trail or the Eagle River Nature Center.

Full day? Several options:
Museum downtown, Ak Native Hertitage Center, hiking or biking @ Coastal Trail, Earthquake Park, etc, fishing at Bird Creek (not too far from Anchorage), Portage Glacier visitors center, wander around downtown/shop at the local stores, Wildlife Refuge near Portage, visit Girdwood/Alyeska, etc.
