Anchorage (Airport) Hotel Question
I could use a bit of help...
My wife and I land in Anchorage on September 2. Unfortunately, the flight doesn't get in until like 9:30 at night. We are heading off towards Denali the next morning. Any thoughts on a decent hotel around the airport for a quick overnight? Thanks in advance! |
they all are decent except Best Western which was awful. Courtyard is nice
|
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which was very close to the airport, and I found it to be perfect for a quick overnight stay.
|
I've stayed at the Super 8, fine for a bed, there is also Microtel. Both run airport shuttles which is necessary without a car. :)
|
Thanks for the suggestions...
I'm going to try to post my planned full itinerary later in the week. I look forward to all of your comments. |
Microtel was great for us - spacious rooms and great rate.
|
Thanks... I'm looking into the mircotel. Getting a rate of like $150, seems a little steep for a bed for the night, but not the end of the world.

We stayed at the Ramada Limited on Muldoon. Although it's not very close to the airport, they do have a shuttle that is the best we've ever had in all our travels. As a matter of fact, all the young kids (25 +) that work there are awesome. Our flight arrived at midnight, and our driver met us within minutes. Then she offered to take us on a quick drive around town to see the sights. It was quite light outside, so we readily agreed. She narrated, pointed out points of interest, and gave us a lot of Alaskan history. That quick trip really helped us get our bearings in Anchorage, too. As it turns out, the driver has some sort of bachelor's degree in tourism (she called the correct name--but I can't recall it. ;-) ) Seems they are all college grads in the tourism industry.
When I phoned their local toll-free number for reservations or at other times with questions, they offered more help than most tour books. Also, they provide a full breakfast buffet--maybe it won't be featured in a magazine, but it's a good start to the day. Then the shuttle took us back to the airport to pick up our rental the next morning. I say you can't beat that kind of service! Enjoy your trip! Alaska is not to be missed! |
We are also arriving on 09/02. We found under $100 per night rates at the Ramada Limited ($84.55 AAA rate), Puffin Inn ($89.99 senior), and Royal Suite Lodge ($85.00 senior).
If you want really inexpensive, there is the Spenard Hostel for less than $20 per person for a shared room with a bath down the hall. There were three of us so we payed an additional $15 or so for the entire room. It was very clean and much quieter than expected. We were not their typical clients - three adults over 40 who had flown first class and had Louis Vuitton luggage, but we were treated very nicely (we did get some strange looks when checking in). Our flight landed around 9:00 that night and we were heading our early (around 5:00) the next morning and did not want to spend $150+ for a room. Rates drop substanially after 09/01/05. |
Was that the BEST rate you could get at the microtel? Can you aarp or aaa or get a corporate discount or talk to the anchorage mcrotel directly? Don't just take the first rate they give you - they have wiggle room.

Found $125 (aaa or business rate) at the Microtel...
