Anchorage Airport - airline suggestions?
Hello!!! I am attempting to book a flight into Anchorage for my father and uncle. Are there any airlines that provide regular service into this airport? Are there any 'hubs' here?
The airport's website isn't giving me a list, but I've found flights on Alaska Air, NWA and United. Are there any other airlines that you would specifically suggest pricing? THANKS!!! |
I ALWAYS use Alaska Air.
Never been disappointed with service. |
I've flown to Alaska with NWA, United and Delta. Pretty much the same in my opinion. Some codeshares with Alaska Airlines.
I book based on price. |
Anchorage is one of Alaska Airlines three hubs (in addition to SEA & LAX) and they have the most flights into and out from Anchorage. Thus, based on schedules alone, Alaska Airlines will offer the most flexibility for your travel plans.
Alaska Airlines is an excellent company with good customer service the norm, rather than the exception. |
Coming from... Boston? Baton Rouge? Bemidji? Barcelona?
|
Gardy's point is well-taken -- a lot depends on where you're coming from. One of my best flights out of ANC was back when KLM used to flight there. That was back when all the Euro and Asia big airlines used to refuel there ... (and had one heckuva duty-free shop.)
But those days are long gone. Also fading is Alaska Air's days when it was heads and tail above the big guys. It's still good -- and perhaps a bit better -- than the legacies, but not like it was. |
We flew United from OAK into Anchorage, and were happy although that was 10 years ago.

US Airlines, which combined recently with America West Airlines, flies to Anchorage from Phoenix and (I believe) Las Vegas.
|
One way you can find out all the airlines would be to go to Expedia or one of those and plug in your itinerary and they will search available flights and that was you can see the airlines available.

If you want to know all the possiblities you need only to go to one aggregator site: www.itasoftware.com

used NW out of philly, i made it but my luggage well that's another story.
|
My recent flight to Anchorage & back was on Alaskan Air, and the service was extremely poor. However, I know that one episode of poor service does not mean the entire airline suffers from it. I would fly them again b/c they do have the most flights in & out of Anchorage. But if the service was really bad again, I would probably try to avoid them.

Continental? Why don't you look on Travelocity or such and see all that fly there from wherever it is you are trying to get from.
|
Thanks for the helpful suggestions, especially the itasoftware site.
They will be flying out of Boston (Gardyloo, are you psychic? ha!). However, I do NOT expect to find a direct flight. Allowing for a layover opens them up to take just about any airline. I always use search sites (orbitz, expedia, travelocity, sidestep, etc) when pricing flights, but not all airlines show up. So I prefer to search individual airlines as well. Alaska Air has been providing the best flight times, but highest price so far. I will continue to search the other airlines suggested here. What about Frontier? Southwest? |
You're wise to check multiple sites. From the East Coast, Northwest -- although not my favorite airline -- is a pretty good option. They have non-stops from MSP, Detroit and Seattle so you have a lot of options if there are travel issues.
There's also seasonal service from MSP to ANC on Sun Country but it's a hassle and likely involves two sets of tickets and a terminal change in MSP. |
The best fare we could find for our upcoming August trip was Delta from JFK to Seattle and connecting with Alaska Air to Anchorage, although it was all done thru Delta
|
We are flying out of Boston in June to Anchorage. At the time I purchased our tickets the best price and times for us were on Alaska Airlines. We do have a stopover in Seattle.
|
Along with price, check the flight times. On our last trip we paid about $50 more for a shorter flight and one less stop. It's a long flight from the east coast to ANC so it was worth it to us to save two hours of flying time. It's great if you only have one stop.
