Anaheim and Newport Beach lodging/ dining
Okay, we are taking a last minute trip this week to SoCal. We'll stay with relatives most of the time though want to spend a night in either Anaheim or Newport Beach area. Want to spend under $200.-, and it will be on a weekday. Any ideas for DH and I? Anyway, casual (not fast food) doing ideas are welcome. Thanks!

For restaurants, Oysters in Corona del Mar at the corner of PCH and Jamboree is a personal favorite. Jazz combo, great atmosphere, reasonable prices, often some celebrities. Truly fine. Dukes at Huntington Beach Pier has a fantastic ocean view, outdoor deck, lively bar, delicious food and reasonable prices.
A fine hotel with reasonable prices 10 minutes from Newport is Ayer's Country Suites right behind Orange County Airport. Beautiful rooms, fine restaurant, and probably at your price point. You are not on the water, but once you are through the front door, this is a great hotel. |
The Crab Cooker in Newport Beach has been there since 1951. Very funky, beachy fish restaurant. Probably easier to get into on a weeknight. You should really check out their website for the menu before you go, as they have mostly shellfish.

The Beachcomber at Crystal Cove--always busy and they don't take reservations, but a quintessential SoCal experience.

A good moderate hotel on the PCH is a Best Western.

Thanks all! We're ending up staying near Disneyland, though I will keep the PCH info for a future visit. :-)
