Amtrak or other train travel

I have been trying to research how to travel by train and am lost. I would like to travel from Michigan to Las Vegas. Does anyone know if there is a train service that does this? Having to change trains is not a problem. I just haven't been able to find a website to give me any information about how to book a trip. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Colleen

AMTRAK no longer provides train service to Las Vegas. You can take the train into Los Angeles and continue on an AMTRAK bus to Las Vegas.

Maybe a better alternative would be to take AMTRAK from Chicago to Salt Lake City then fly to Las Vegas. That AMTRAK route will take you through the heart of the Rocky Mountains and is beathtakingly scenic (from Denver to SLC-the trip from Chicago to Denver is not as scenic unless you are turned on by the Great Plains).

Have a great trip.

Amtrak has a great website.
full of info.
It will answer just about any questions you could think of

Thanks for the info. Flying isn't an option for my father-in-law, which is why I was hoping to get Amtrak service. I'll check into the Amtrak bus. Do you know how long it takes by bus from LA to LV?

You can find that information on amtrak.com as well. They provide coach service from either LA or Salt Lake City.

If you take the California Zephyr to SLC, you'll arrive there late the 2nd day, and you need to overnight in SLC. Bus from SLC runs 8:30am - 4:10pm.

If you take the Southwest Chief to LA, you arrive the 3rd morning, then the bus runs 9:45am -3:30pm.

So, the train ride via LA is longer, but you arrive at Las Vegas a little earlier with a shorter bus ride. As for cost, it depends on what accomodation you're using, and what hotel you may be staying at Salt Lake, if necessary.

If you do travel the train over nite get a sleeper, you can get that info as well on amtraks web site.
I have rode the California Zephyr several times in the last 5 years and always enjoy it.
I regret next week I will not be able to take the train to oregon because
of time problems,we will fly instead.
Also if you want you can call 1 800 USA RAIL.
Ask for their yearly vacition guide.
The train is a good trip if you have the time.
