Amtrak or Greyhound

I will be travelling alone in California for about 7 days. Which is better to get between the main centres - Amtrak or Greyhound?

If the added cost (assuming Amtrack is somewhat more expensive than Greyhound) is not a factor, I'd suggest the train, especially for comfort. You can get up and walk around, get a snack a few cars away, etc. The route in CA is mostly along the coast which is also very beautifull. I would bet the bus travels inland on the superhighways with nothing to look at. Take the train! Enjoy!

Southwest Airlines will have fares comparable to the uncomfortably slow bus and train if booked in advance. Check out http://www.iflyswa.com/

I also suggest Southwest Airlines. I recently flew from San Fran to San Diego for $67. AND, it only took 1 hour versus 8-10 on the road.

Hands down, I'd take Amtrak over the bus any day.

WICT, do you realize the search is not working on Fodor's, and you're topping all old threads?
