Theatre District: New York Hotel Suggestions
Going to New York Mid March to see Hairspray
with my family, never been to New York or to see a broadway play so we are very excited. Need a hotel suggestion in the theatre district or close by.
Any favourites from the theatre going people??

Although it is nice to be right near the theatre district, there are so many hotels within a decent walking distance that you don't need to stay right there. NY is such a great place to walk you might enjoy the opportunity to be a little farther away. Try www.quickbook.com. They have a map to show the locations of the hotels so you can see how close you will be.

Not sure what type of budget you're on but we stay at the Super8 on Times Square (actually a little east). It has recently been renovated and/or opened so the rooms are very nice - no wear yet.
The free breakfast is a bit claustrophobic as the room is small. However, we tend to get coffee and juice there and our bagels down the street.
PS: Since you've not been to NYC brace yourself for NYC hospitality. It seems abrupt compared to other parts of the country but then again Texans seems a bit too friendly for me. ;-)

Our favorite is Casablanca. It is small, which I like. If you like BIG you can't go wrong with the Mariott Marquis. If you need a room for more than 2 check out the Doubletree in Times Square. It has suites and is "reasonably" priced (for NYC) and the rooms are GREAT. Have fun!

c'mon, give us a clue. the answer if you want to keep the cost to $100 a night is totally different if you want a really nice place and willing to go to $400 a night. what are you looking for? one night or more? driving or flying?

We are spending 4 nights in New York
and besides the theatre we are sight
seeing (Empire State Bldg, Times Square
etc) and shopping with a 16yr old.
Price range fot hotel $300-400. Would
really like some luxury since we are
going for my daughters 16th birthday.

I once looked at a couple rooms at the Benjamin, contemplating renting a suite or apartment by the month. I thought mostly the rooms were tired and dreary. I was not impressed at all for the price.
I'd also go for the Michaelangelo! And the Rhiga Royal Suites are very nice (although not as "classy" as the Michaelangelo.
