AMEX Changes Double Points

Noticed a TV announcement yesterday that AMEX was changing point policy.

Called AMEX today and confirmed they are no longer offering Double Points and Everyday Double Points. Some cards will have points changes as well.

As a customer who uses AMEX for FF airline tickets I was disappointed.

AMEX indicated they were going to offer more points program for AMEX purchases online..not sure if that means any online purchase or only thru AMEX website...

I think this is an attempt to head off at the pass an impending problem - too many miles, not enough seats to go around.

Airlines have reduced seat capacity system wide which means planes are flying closer to full load. That means less opportunities to use miles.

I think is trying to change their program to deal in the reality that miles may have less value over the next few years.

Bummer...it's the only reason I use AMEX at the gas station, Costco, grocery store, etc. Do you know when it is effective? How do you go about getting the airline tickets with your points anyway? Do I get vouchers or certificates?

laurenzo, first, you have to be a member of the ff program for the airline(s) that you want to use for your ff trip.
You then call the airline for availability. Once that's set, you contact Amex Membership Rewards and transfer the point that the particular airline program.
