Fodors has one of these silly lists on the go.

For once they have got it right.

Beaufort, SC on the list. Good choice.

I would add Chatham, Cape Cod and Ashville NC.

Sorry Asheville!

I would add Charlottesville, VA.

Madison GA often makes the list for most beautiful.

I agree with Asheville.

Never heard of Madison.

It looks like a lovely stop from Atlanta to the coast.

Loved Beaufort when I lived there but needs change.

So many cute little towns. I would add my home town of Klamath Falls, Oregon - right on 40 mile long Klamath Lake - with a view of a beautiful cinder cone mountain - 10,000 ft. Mt. McGloughlin - and all the outdoor activities one could hope for, including one of the natural wonders of the world - deep blue Crater Lake.

Beautiful sunny days in the summer - getting up to 90 - but no humidity - yet cooling off at night - down to the middle 60's - as it's at 4,000 feet - and even though it snows in the winter - usually doesn't stay on the ground that long - as also sunny days in the winter - but can get down to 0 at times.

My little mountain town of Quincy, CA, made Budget Travel's list of Best Small Towns in America last year. :) The surrounding natural beauty is a big selling point.

I like Asheville, but I wouldn't call it, or Charlottesville, small.

Dickie_Gr is is. Legend has it that Sherman's roommate at West Point was from Madison and he spared the town from burning. The area surrounding it is lovely. There's a fabulous southern cooking restaurant in nearby Social Circle - the Blue Willow Inn. The little town of Covington is almost as lovely and has served as a set for movies and TV shows almost continuously for the last 30 years. Oprah was in town a couple of weeks ago filming Selma and Queen Latifah is in town now filming Bessie. I crossed path with the production crews several times yesterday just doing regular errands. The house that inspired Twelve Oaks in Gone with the Wind (per Margaret Mitchell) is in Covington and now is a B&B. There's a gorgeous Ritz Carlton on Lake Oconee in the area and there's a fabulous sunflower festival in the in between area each summer. It's beautiful out here. :-)
