American History Trip
 

We always take a six to eight week road trip every summer. We will driving up from Texas July/August We are planning on focusing on the Northeast and Atlantic Canada. We homeschool. And having been learning about the Colonies, native Americans and the Revolutionary War. So that is a vital bit of this trip. But we like to mix education/nature/fu. Along with visiting family in Upstate New York. We normal prefer camping. But in larger cities we will stay in hotels that are under 300.00 a night. We just try to limit hotels to only two weeks of the trip. Otherwise KOA, National Parks, state parks camping or family-friendly hostels. The kiddos are 10,and 15. And have already put in their request for their trip. So this my initial plan. Any help, tweaks, suggestion for historical value, or marine biology or information on time needed to focus on the areas. Thank you

Travel to Williamsburg

Week 2
Williamsburg, Jamestown, Montecellio, Harper’s Ferry, Gettysburg

4 Days DC

4 Days Philadelphia

4 Days New York

1 week
Connecticut, Rhode Island and massachusetts

4 Days Boston

Two weeks Maine and Atlantic Canada

One week Vermont, New Hampshire and New York

In Connecticut, do NOT miss Mystic Seaport -- it's a great outdoor / indoor museum of American ship-building.

Include a day in Baltimore Inner Harbor out of your DC days.
If everyone does not have US Passports, get them soon.
See Peggy's Cove and the Evangeline statue in Nova Scotia.
Visit L.L. Bean in Freeport Maine.

Here’s a start for you. I always added history and educational trips to our vacations and had my kids look through books/online for what they wanted to see when we traveled. If they contributed, we could visit what they wanted to see. If they didn’t, then they couldn’t complain and had to go where their parents chose :)
