AMERICAN-HAWAIIAN CRUISE LINE
HAS ANYONE TRAVELED THIS LINE? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CRUISE AROUND THE ISLANDS?

Those are very old ships! Suggest you
contact a good travel agency with a
cruise specialist.

My recommendation would be Holland America
Lines which sail to Hawaii from Southern
California.
After 6 trips to Hawaii, I don't understand why anyone would cruise the islands. There is so much to see and enjoy. Do yourself a big favor and save the cost of the cruise and pick 2 islands and spend at least 5 days on each. If you like cruising do Alaska or Caribean. My recomendation is Maui and Kauai. Don't worry about missing the other isles, I know you will be going back.Aloha

I took the American-Hawaiian Cruise and I would sugest to any one that has the time to spend in Hawaii to take the cruise. It was one of the most enjoyable trips I have been on and the islands are much more beautiful than the carrabien islands. When you add up all your cost for traveling to only two island hotel and meals for 10 days. The cruise out weigh them all.
Our package also included a 3-day stay in Honolula.
TAKE THE CRUISE!!! you will not regret it..

While it is true that the ship is rather old, I feel it is the best way to see Hawaii. It is comfortable and the staff does everything to see to it you are satisfied. The best way to travel is by cruise ship because you don`t have to worry about catching planes, or packing and unpacking every day. Once you are on board and settled in, you are free to have fun for the next 7 days. We have taken this cruise 3 times and would not hesitate to do it again. We love to travel and haven`t found a better way than by ship. We have been on 12 cruises, and none better than Hawaiian-American.

My wife and I went on the 7 day cruise in 94. We call it the Posiden Adventure. We only got to 2 of the 4 ports. 140 mph winds and 55 foot seas kept us wandering the ocean off shore. You know it is rough
when your dinner server can't make it because he is sea sick. The ship rocked so much, it splashed the water in the pool almost empty. We were on the Constitution and it was getting worn. The entertainment was poor. Food was good. They of course aren't responsible for the weather but offered a discount that was less than our agent gave us for early booking. Imagine the opportunity they missed to get us back.

This September we are going back to see the Maui and Kauai we missed the last time. At least if we stay on shore, as one of the previous notes said, if the weather is bad on one side of the island, we can go to another, or lacking that, go shopping, to a movie, a museum, whatever. We spent a lot of money to have a small room, we were told to stay off the deck so we couldn't see much of a view. Most people were so sea sick they couldn't eat any of the food. But we did have fun fighting a fire when the breakfast buffet fell over on the tossing deck and we helped put out the fire.

Having said all that, my cousin and his wife
when the week before we did and enjoyed it. Whew! Sorry to be so long but the ship is a risk. Hawaii is so beautiful and the people so open that it will be a wonderful trip no matter what you do. Have a great time.

Has anyone taken a more recent cruise of the Hawaiian Islands with either Hawaiian American Line or any other line. How is the weather is September or October for cruising.

I have been to the Hawaiian Islands 6 times, once to Ohau for a week, once on Holland American for 10 days (I believe), once on Royal Caribbean's Legend, and 3 times on American Hawaii's SS Independence. AH is the only US Registered, US crewed cruiseline. You fly to Ohau, board the ship and spend 7 days in Paradise. Each island is unique and the tours scheduled from the ship are the best offered and the food is fresh and local. AH cruises the islands 50 weeks every year and has a purchasing leverage no other cruiseline can match. There is only one ship at the present time, but another is being purchased, if the registration can be changed to US. Other cruise lines must come from a non US port before visiting the islands by US maritime law which adds three days of crossing the Pacific Ocean (bummer). When you consider the cost for room, food, and entertainment over any other kind of accommodation, you can't beat cruising. Unlike a previous response, I've never experienced bad weather and I intend to cruise the islands on American Hawaii the next time I go.
