American Express Free Airline Companion Ticket Offer

Is anyone familiar with this offer or something similar?

Yesterday I received an email from AE with a subscribe to Travel & Leisure magazine, pay $2.99 processing fee and can receive a companion ticket (value up to $599) to one of their 100 designated cities. I've clicked and searched and can't find more specific information.

There doesn't seem to be any huge risk in the offer, I like the magazine and certainly could cancel it if I wanted to but I'm just curious as to others' experiences.

Thanks,
Linda

I did companion tix years ago through my American Express Award Points to Switzerland for our family of four - pay for one, the other was a nominal under $10 fee - is this what you are referring to? If so, you should have info from American Express with all your reward information or go online to their page
www.americanexpress.com/rewards

and you can go to airlines and see which ones offer coupons, points for flights and/or companion fares.

Our companion fare was with Swiss Air.

good luck !

I got one of those "free" companion tickets from AmEx once. But it was only good with a full fare purchase. Since I was always able to get a flight for less than half of full fare, meaning that I could buy two tickets for less than one plus the "free" companion, I gave up and finally through the certificate away.

Thank you for your replies!

escargot: I don't think it's the same, it seems different than the normal credit card BOGO offer, I think NeoPatrick's sounds similar.

NeoPatrick: Your response begs the question, how do you get your airfare deals?

I go to the airline websites (99% of the time I use American) and plan ahead -- by at least a few months.

I'm not one to decide to take a vacation just a couple weeks ahead of time.

My experience with the companion ticket offers have been similar to Patrick's. Pre-planning and grabbing tickets when there are sales is much better, IMO.

My son signed up for one of those credit card / airline ticket deals. When we checked over the coupon, it required booking in a fare code that was practically full price coach! =-o

Happy travels!

My experiece matches that of swisshiker and patrick....I am such a cynic that I discard all such offers, assuming that they are not really giving anything away....

I am another one that never found the AMEX Companion Ticket Offer to be the best deal sorriso. I guess AMEX finally decided I was not interested as I haven't received an offer from them for some time.

With amex platinum, you get a free domestic companion ticket generally speaking. We used it last year and our experience was pretty favorable. I don't remember the ticket price, but, if memory serves, if the original ticket cost 300, we ended up saving about 200. Not quite buy one get oen free. And the price of the original ticket was pretty much the price that delta had on their website. I think you save money, just not as much as you think going into it.
