Amelia island in JUNE

What is the weather like around
the 3rd week of June? Which resort
would you recommend for a family
with 2 boys-10 and 14 yrs old?
Hoping to golf 2 or 3 times
during the week.

Thanks Much!

Do a search on this site; this (general) topic has been discussed a number of times. The weather will be, simply put, hot, and humid. I grew up in that area, and still live somewhat nearby. The advantage to going in June is that it won't be as hot in July and August.

Have you considered staying on Amelia Island Plantation with your family? THey have condos that you can rent. It is a WONDERFUL place to take kids! As a child, we would vacation there every summer. They have the beach, stables nearby, and the most wonderful bike trails thru lush shady trees, etc. on the plantation. The bike rides were my favorite!! It is a fabulous place to take a family!! :-)

How hot do you think it will be?
80's, 90's or hotter?

I checked the Vacation Planner feature at weather.com and found that in Jacksonville, the average high from June 15-21 has been 89F and the average low, 69F.

JackOneill Mar 11th, 2003 10:37 AM

As the averages indicate, it'll be in the 80s, barring some cataclysmic event.

Where are you coming from? I mean, if you're heading to Florida after going through the snow and bitterness of a northern or widwestern winter, than I would think the 80s (even high 80s) sound pretty good. For us who live in the South, and have to put up with the heat and humidity, it doesn't sound as nice.

Check out Fort Clinch in Fernandina. I'd think your kids would like that. It's a cool place to explore.

Daytime high for June, upper 80s. End of June? Low 90s. You aren't going to get much relief the end of June from scorching summer heat.

JackOneill Mar 11th, 2003 10:56 AM

The only relief comes in the form of ocean breezes, to the extant there are any, and to the extant, you're on or very near the ocean.

To me, June through late September (maybe mid-October) is hot with a capital H in Florida. And I lived there for 20 years. Actually, in all fairness, it's not the heat, but the humidity. (I love saying that.)

Is north florida cooler than central
or south florida, or is it all just
HOT in June? Is it cooler near
the ocean also?

Thanks Much!

By the end of June, it doesn't really make a difference what part of Florida you will be in. It will be hot and humid all over the state. If you want cool evening weather, go north of Virginia.

Amelia Island is nice. Only 2 places to stay really on the beach and that is Ritz Carlton and the plantation itself which is better. Look into Amelia Island plantation, great for kids - lots to do and golf is very good. June, u may have to break out bug spray. It goes get warm in June but hottest months are july/aug/sept. go to WWW.aipfl.com for the website - you may find lots to do and rates at the plantation resort. June, dont worry about the weather - hot and humid no matter where u are in florida. just enjoy the seabreeze along the beach.
