We stayed at the Amelia Island Plantation last year. Large property with lots of choices and nice beach. Found it to be somewhat expensive for what we got, and the so called activities were definitely over-rated. Going back, I would stay at the Ritz-Carlton. It is in the same general area of the Island and is a better value and nicer hotel.

Some friends of ours stayed at the Plantation last year and loved it. The Plantation called our friends directly a few weeks ago and offered them an exceptional deal to come back this summer with golf being included which they jumped on like a ......

Anyway it's worth giving them a call and asking for some sort of special deal.

Enjoy!

Ciao,

There are some great rental homes located right on the beach if you are looking for privacy and total relaxation! We stay every year at the same home with other family members to share the cost. We fish a few steps from the back deck, swim in the warm Atlantic ocean and boogie board when the waves are up! It's fantastic to see the sunrise over the ocean every morning and catch glimpses of dolphins swimming practically in your backyard. The place we rented from is on the web. The URL is: www.amelia-era.com/ and the house we rent every year is located at: http://www.amelia-era.com/rent19.htm.

We stayed at the Plantation three years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Bought a golf package at a discount and the golfer in our family was ecstatic with the variety of courses available on the package. The resort is made up of high-rise hotels and secluded villas. We stayed in a villa (no more expensive than a room in the high-rise) and had the time of our lives. The resort is built on the beach and it is utterly secluded. Good restaurants, great tennis facility and the spa is TO DIE FOR. We recommend the Plantation 100%.

Just returned from long weekend on Amelia Island.
Shared a two bedroom, two bath condo on the beach.
Attractive, comfortable, spacious condo at Amelia
Island Surf and Racquet Club. Especially good for families. Spent an evening down the road at the Ritz Carleton. Beautiful and expensive hotel. (Parking for registered guests a mandatory $13.00/night.)

Our family has been to Amelia Island many times. If you are looking for a quiet, family beach, this is it. The condo's and hotels on the south end of the Island are newer and more expensive than on the north end of the island. We actually prefer to stay on the north end. Most of the condo's in this area were build directly on the ocean. You can look out your window and actually see the waves hitting the beach. Several have been remodeled and are just as nice as the pricer ones in the south part of the island. Some of our favorites are Amelia South, Ketch Courtyard, Amelia By the Sea and Oceans of Amelia.Be sure to make a trip to the historical Fernadina beach town. Enjoy. One of my favorite places to visit.

If you're taking a family or group one of the oceanside villas at Amelia Island Plantation might be a good idea. The grounds of the Plantation are lovely and they have all the expected resort activities available. There are several dining options available at the Plantation-none of them are outstanding but not bad either. For a more luxurious time the Ritz Carlton is very nice(typical ritzy Ritz) with outstanding cuisine and ocean views from all rooms.
