Ambien on plane?
 

Would you suggest taking Ambien on a five hour plane flight? This is for myself and I am an adult. I do not agree with people drugging children!

Ambien is designed for times when you have 7-8 hours before you have to be up and about again. I wouldn't take it for a 5 hour flight.

Half a pill does the trick for 3-4 hours. I usually take a half pill on the long overnight flights from the US to Europe or Africa to Europe because I have trouble sleeping on the plane otherwise.

I've never done it, but am considering doing 5mg for a 6 hour overnight flight. I was thinking of taking it at boarding time and hope I don't get delayed on the runway. I'm curious to hear other experiences.

This is not the CR pill (Controlled Release) so it is out of your system quite quickly. BTW you would not want to split a CR pill, but it might be wise not to take the pill.

I take half a 10mg Ambien for the 5 hour red-eye flights to the east coast from our home on the westcoast. I am konked out for about 3 to 4 hours, which is perfect. I've done it several times and it works for me.

Try it at home first and see how it works for you. I take 5mg and it knocks me out for 6 hours, so I wouldn't do this, but it's different for everyone.

I usually break a pill in half, and take it after they serve the meal. I don't sleep as well as I would at home with it, but I think it at least gives me a couple of hours of sleep. I use it on flight from the West Coast to Europe.

Is it safe when flying to take something that knocks you out for a few hours, therefore, you do not get up and move around at all? I'm thinking about the blood-clot problem:

I won't take a sleeping pill when flying because this risk worries me.
