Amazing Race Finale 9/21 (Don't Read If you don't want to know the winners)

This was one of the best finales that I have seen on TAR. Not surprised that the bowling moms were eliminated. Couldn't stand the "If the Lord this and that" from Brandon. Nicole's breakdown was kind of funny but I'm sure she was exhausted and freezing. Also laughed at the Golly Mosses comment from Brandon. Seemed like Colin & Christie had it made until Chip and Kim lucked out with that flight information.

I'm glad Chip and Kim won over anyone else but I sort of hoped Colin & Christie would have won just for how hard they fought (even though I agree he could really be a jerk). Ending comments from Chip and Kim were really nice. I thought what Colin & Christie had to say about each other showed they do really care about each other. They were gracious enough to say some nice things about Chip & Kim and they still walked away with a ton of free vacations they won!

Can't wait for the next one to start!

For once, the good guys did finish first.

YAY Chip & Kim!!! Your comments at the end were very inspirational re why people should travel and experience different things.

Important travel tips in show tonight:
Always call the airline to make sure your flight is on time.

You cannot check luggage onto a plane you're not going to fly on - duh!

YEAH Chip and Kim. I am sooooo glad they won. They got a break on the airline flight but when they were sitting in that traffic on the Dallas freeway, wasn't sure they would make it. Of course the producers have to make it suspenseful. I was actually a little surprised on how gracious Colin was, if anything he seemed more gracious than Christie but you never know how the show was edited.

The Philippine Islands were beautiful. Of course Calgary was beautiful, too but looked a little cold for my California blood. Can't wait for the next one to start!

I thought the bowling moms were just fabulous. These are not young women and the things they accomplished were just amazing. I was glad to see Chip and Kim win..not only because of their love and respect for each other, but it was nice to see someone older that mid 20's come through and win it. Colin and Christie were pains in the butt the whole time and I hope this taught them something about themselves and their relationship..and they did get a whole lot of trips...oh my, the tax man will come calling...I'm sure they're ready for it but they will be forking over a nice chunk of change real soon. Brandon and Nicole...they were just sort of "milk toast"...didn't really care too much about them one way or the other. Didn't particularly want them to win but if they had...other than wanting the bowling moms or Chip and Kim to win it...well I wouldn't have really been too upset. I will always carry the vision of Colin plowin' that muccy field and Christie yelling at him to "control" the bull. Like it never occured to either of them to have her lead it....duh!!!! I wonder what they thought when they saw how the others had done it. Too funny. So...on to the next race..oh yea, can't wait.

If anyone taped this, can you please email me? I really need a copy. Unreliable me was supposed to tape it for my neighbors. Halfway through I realized I was taping the wrong channel. Then I fixed it, but my tape ran out 5 min before the end! How lame. I can hardly face them. If you have a tape I would gladly pay the shipping. Help!

P. S. Hooray for Chip and Kim, my favorite team!

The rope-climb thing wasn't really fair to the heavy-set moms, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Sorry Brandon & Nicole, I guess Jesus took the night off!

Great finale!

I loved the fact that Linda didn't get upset with Karen for having a hard time in the last challenge. She was supportive and a true friend -- they should be very proud of how well they did.

Colin was surprisingly gracious at the end. I noticed he and Christie weren't fighting and he was helpful to her climbing the snow-covered mountain. Hopefully, they've grown a bit from their experience.

I wonder if Brandon and Nicole will stay together. I tend to think they won't (or shouldn't.)

I'm delighted (and surprised) that Chip and Kim won. Such a solid couple -- they clearly enjoyed the experience and were true winners even if they hadn't come in first.

I can't wait for the next race to begin.

Brandon made a comment that he wasn't really sure if he knew yet if Nicole was the one for him. Then she said the trip made her realize how much she loves him. I'm surprised she didn't smack him at times with all that bible talk, especially with her breakdown on the mountain bikes.

Anyone else crack up when Chip & Kim crashed twice in the luge? We were all laughing pretty good at that!

I'm so glad Chip & Kim won! And I'm so glad fodors did not delete this thread!

uhoh_busted Sep 22nd, 2004 04:15 AM

I was so pleased they won! They REALLY cared about each other and never sniped at each other or blamed one or the other for a mistake or choice. It drove me crazy however, how one group would make an extraordinary effort to finish a task...only to have them all end up on the same flight to the next location. SO it was a good "payoff" that even though they crashed on the luge and were the last to finish that task (BTW, wasn't it a surprise to see Kim lead Chip up the mountain on that trek to the Continental Divide?!) that when they reached the airport the others' flight had been delayed and THEY ended up with the best alternative flights to Denver/Dallas?

Travel. Sometimes the unexpected delays can work to your advantage!

Perfect ending. Yeah Chip and Kim!
Colin just proposed to Christie this morning on CBS. She said yes of course. They deserve each other.

>oh my, the tax man will come calling

LOL! Since they always value those things at the highest possible cost, I would probably pay less visiting those places than the they will pay in taxes.

Last night's races did seem more weighted toward the young and fit. Compared to the other episodes, there was less benefit to being clever.

Chip disappointed me, when he lied to B&N. I think it would have been more appropriate for him to just not tell them what the result was at each flag.

Anyone know what the compensation is for the teams that didn't win the million? I guarantee that it is more than the handful of free trips given out.

I know it's hokey, but the sentimental sap in me just loved it when Brandon carried Nicole down that mountain piggyback. Instead of getting real mad, he helped her out. And the way he supported her when she was yukking on the caviar...especially as contrasted to Colin just bullying Christie at the same challenge. I love that.

And Kim finally contributed: she was the one who figured out they had an advantage with their knowledge of the delayed flight. She proved her worth at that moment.

Wasn't it great when C&C fell out of the kayak? Hehehe

Dreamer2 Sep 22nd, 2004 05:36 AM

Just great stuff! I really enjoyed this series more than any other AR.

How wonderful that Chip and Kim won. I've been rooting for them from the beginning: "Married Parents." What an anachronism! My kids were sure that C&C would win, since they claim, "The nice ones never finish first" on these reality shows. I was thrilled to proove them wrong!

"The Moms" - still can't recall their names. But WOW - they make an incredible example! I LOVED them.

And I LOVE Brandon. I don't know when I've ever seen such a sweet guy. He will have plenty of girls to pick from now, and I hope he finds one just as sweet, patient, moral, and faithful as himself. I felt so sorry for Nicole; she was terrified on that bike.

C&C sure seemed to take their loss better than I would have expected. And they seemed so happy after their engagement this morning. I'm sure that will be a passionate, emotional, and volatile union.

And finally, I hope Chip and Kim don't blow all their money. After pledging some to their church, they are investing a lot into some music company and new pop-star. Yikes! Their lawyer was on TV with them, along with Chip's sisters. Hope they are putting a good chunk aside for their kids educations, never mind taxes.

Ah well! Lots of fun!

"Chip disappointed me, when he lied to B&N"

I, on the other hand was surprised at teams getting angry when their competitors don't help them out. It's not cheating to use the yield and you are not required to help out the other team with clues. If I had been Brandon and Chip told me it wasn't right I'd have laughed in his face and said "yea well you'll forgive me if I don't believe you"

Sandy--I taped it...my husband was out last night but I could mail the tape once he watches it, which I assume will be tonight. Post your email and we can get things squared away before the neighbors get back :-)

I'm happy with the outcome. I loved Chip, he reminds me so much of my husband--positive, likeable, supportive. And yes, I have to go back to Calgary now. I was there one summer without the freezing cold and snow. And who knows the name of that island they went to last night? I know it was in the western-most province of the Phillipines but that's it...it looked like paradise to me!!

Paula1470 -
what you saw of Calgary was in the winter, it is very warm in the summer and you are right, it is a beautiful area of the world. Well worth a visit!

I have relatives who live in Sacramento and love coming up here to visit, the summers are gorgeous.

Interesting to watch the check presentation on Good Morning America today. Chip and Kim - gracious as usual. Colin (not to be outdone) got down on one knee and proposed to Christy on air (hasn't that been done?). But the real surprise - Brandon and Nicole didn't seem all that together. When asked about their relationship, she said, "its fine - taking one day at a time", he said nothing. When proded by Harry, he finally said, "well, I don't have a ring with me". I bet they split up. Bowling Moms brought along the Bowling Dads - so cute. They deserve so much credit for finishing with the young, fit teams. All in all - another great season.

caribtraveler Sep 22nd, 2004 06:34 AM

TC: Thought the same thing about Brandon and Nicole. There was a distance there.
By the way, that island in the Philippines looked beautiful.

ncgrrl Sep 22nd, 2004 06:40 AM

I think the Phillipines island is named El Nido.

Glad Chip and Kim won over Colin and Christie, though I was routing for the Bowling Moms.

I wish Colin HAD NOT proposed on the Early Show. The time was for the attention to focus on Chip and Kim and not Colin (Colin, get over it, you didn't win). It's sort of like announcing your engagement at your best friend's wedding.

The editing of the show had me ramped up for an hour or so. Showing the helicopter shots of traffic and the cuts to Chip and Kim sitting in the traffic jam while Colin and Christie's driver do all sorts of illegal manuever.
