Amazing Race 11-29

That wasn't too big a surprise. We've seen that happen before, and the Lintz already suspected.

I wish they would please take these people out of these SUVs and make the show more interesting with some public transportation.

As long as it isn't the Weavers, I don't really care who wins.

I wish that they gave them lessons on how to back up the darn trailers! I want to jump into the tv and help!

They made such a big deal out of the "crash landings" on the hot air balloons. They had terrific "stand up" landings. I will say that I'm not quite sure why the Weaver's pilot opted to land them on such a steep incline. There were plenty of landable area around without the danger of encountering the road.

Could you tell from the previews of why the Weavers were pulled over? I didn't catch it. A friend commented that they weren't wearing seat belts.

brenandg Nov 29th, 2005 07:10 PM

Keith,
You echo my sentiments from last week exactly. My first choice to win however would be the Linz family followed by Wally and the girls. The Weavers still continue to be a turn off. Even though this installment is much less entertaining, I will watch til the finish. The Weavers are so annoying that I can hardly stand it though. The "quiet boy" is becoming more obnoxious too.

klam_chowder Nov 30th, 2005 02:40 AM

I agree winners: Lintzes (who have grown on me), Wally, and hopefully no one else!

What's with the "due to a production error caused by the cameraman, draining battery, got new car" spiel we got this week again?!! Heard it last week, and they don't show any footage of it, and pretty well edit out all the dialogue of it.

It happened to the Lintzes causing them to drop to last place. I hope there's a leg where they can pass people. The way it's set up, apart from the railroad detour, it's FIFO. I hope they have more difficult roadblocks like that in the final legs.

Enjoy-la!

moldyhotelsaregross Nov 30th, 2005 03:13 AM

I've been trying to figure out how the cameras can drain car batteries. Granted, I'm not familiar with professional video equipement, but I just don't get it.

carolynf Nov 30th, 2005 03:43 AM

I think what happened with the cameras is that the cameramen used the car battery (through cigarette lighter or other method?) to charge the camera battery and wound up draining the car battery so that the car was dead. I have watched every season and they almost never show footage of "production errors", etc...one of the only few times that we even see the setup (camera guy, sound guy, seating arrangements, etc.) was last season when one of the cars was involved in an accident in which a cameraman was injured.

PattiW Nov 30th, 2005 04:25 AM

It just doesn't seem fair that because of a production error in two episodes, 2 teams were sent to the back of the pack, there should be some other way to deal with a production error w/o penalizing the team.

Also, I'm sick of them leveling the playing field, season after season, when the lead team, in this case the Linz's who departed at 12:46am, start the baloon race 30 minutes before the Weavers who were 5 hours behind them with a departure time of 5am or so. This is just annoying, what's the point of being the first to depart if everyone catches up at the museum, airport, train station or whatever.....

laurieb_nyny Nov 30th, 2005 04:26 AM

Whenever you plug an appliance into your car's cigarette lighter (cell phone, DVD player etc.) you have to unplug it whenever you turn the engine off or it will continue to drain your battery.

Keith Nov 30th, 2005 04:33 AM

In past races, if the production team caused a delay, that time was given back to the team.

I am surprised that we haven't seen any of the teams taking advantage of one of the delays (say overnight camping) to practice parking their trailer.

ncgrrl Nov 30th, 2005 05:11 AM

One of the Weaver girls said last night: The Goloski girls are bottle blonds.

Hmm, last time I checked Rachel and Rebecca had two-toned hair, so one of those colors comes from a bottle.

Finally, ballooning. It didn't seem like a race to me, just up and down.

I'd hope the teams don't get eliminated because of a production error.

snowrooster Nov 30th, 2005 05:33 AM

I haven't been watching the show this season, but the Linz family is from my hometown (Cincinnati) - I hear they have been "whodey"ing in support of our Bengals.

Anyway, when the show started this year, it was all over local radio that there was a leak that the Linz's had won. Evidently Vegas betting on them was pretty much mimmicking the bets on Uchenna & Joyce and some of the casinos/betting houses (sorry, I'm not a Vegas pro w/the terms) even stopped allowing bets on them. I don't know how much of this is true (just local radio morning shows) but I thought it was an interesting tidbit to pass along to race fans.

I tried watching at the beginning this season (I've watched previous seasons) but just never got into it. I think there were too many people having full families and it was just hard to keep track of them all!!

brenandg Nov 30th, 2005 06:13 AM

Did anyone notice when they recapped last weeks show, the Linz family talking about the Weaver mom being the Wicked witch and the kids her 3 monkeys? (Referring to the Wizard of Oz) I though that was ironic because I was already going to be humming "Ding Dong the witch the witch is dead" if they are eliminated. She is just a rude nasty woman. Also, I would have liked to see them have to beg for more money. The producers are just making it too easy this time. I also don't think they took their clothes. I too am thouroughly bored with the trailers and SUV's.

JJ5 Nov 30th, 2005 06:14 AM

snowrooster,

Because of the way that "production" mistake was allowed to use the Lenz's time etc.- and without any notable perks to make up for it, I had a strong feeling that they had won. Then it wouldn't have been deemed worthy to change any positions in the edit etc. after the fact.

I'm glad you posted what you heard.

I was pulling for the Bransons, because I think the Dad has finally started to respond to his daughters with some positivity. But I wasn't pulling big time for any one team in these remaining four teams. The Lenz aren't so great in their comments either, nor in their manners.

And that one Godlewski sister Michelle, is enough to make me not want them to win, even if some of them are living in Chicago now. She has a smirk on her face constantly and doesn't get through more than a half a sequence without putting someone (usually Christy) down.

I also think the routing where the 5 hour behind people always end up 1/2 hour behind at the next wait or stop is really the biggest negative in all these AR shows. If it was a real race there would probably be a day between teams at different points. I'd like to see this, regardless if the editing or mix would be too hard for most watchers to follow.

And even better, coupled with the above, would be options for clues left for far behind teams, difficult ones, that when figured out could be shortcuts to the next Detour. Kind of like, sliding down an incline to a later point, like the old kids' game of "Chutes and Ladders".

Keith Nov 30th, 2005 06:25 AM

With so many people involved (all the losing teams are also there at the finish) I can't imagine there not neing leaks.

And this season there are all those children.

Keith

garyt22 Nov 30th, 2005 07:58 AM

everyone involved in the production and crew has to sign a binding 10 million dollar agreement to not release the information on the results... a violation traced back to the leak would put you in court for big bucks. I would imagine that would keep you quiet... I do know however that the race ends in Niagara Falls and is Very close!!!

Keith Nov 30th, 2005 08:42 AM

When you are 12 years old and the kids at school are all teasing you, or your best friend asks you to share your secret with just them, the binding agrement might not seem as strong.

Shane Nov 30th, 2005 08:46 AM

After reading what I am sure was an incomplete family biography of the Godlewskis (provided by CBS), I wonder if Christy is picked on by the other girls because she is a successful wife and mother of four children. Seems like the other gals aren't as successful.

vegasnative Nov 30th, 2005 10:00 AM

First of all, I am hoping for Wally and the girls to cross the finish line first.
I LOVE the AR, but this season IS dissapointing, BUT I will watch it through to the end.
When this season first started I felt sorry for the Weaver's (losing their dad), I was even horrified when Weaver mom got run over by the horse buggy, BUT now when things like their balloon landing on a rocky cliff next to the freeway and we hear them screaming, I can't help but laugh...now THAT is entertainment!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One last dig at the holier than thou family, last week one of the Weaver girls said she "hated" Utah, and if she ever met anyone from Utah she would say..."I'm sorry"...now come on girls, that is not very nice! Why do they get on TV every week and say "we have never been treated this way, we are SO nice", perhaps they forget the cameras are rolling and recorded their every words!!

offlady Nov 30th, 2005 10:22 AM

How many more weeks until the finish? Does anyone know?

laurieb_nyny Nov 30th, 2005 10:37 AM

I think the finale is 12/14.

jorr Nov 30th, 2005 10:47 AM

The Weaver family is one step above a televangelist! My ears were ringing.

I liked the segment in the Mormon working class town of Heber City. I have been there several times over the past years.

RE: The Weavers

As a weekly Churchgoer, I find the Christianity of the Weavers a little shallow and situational. Reminds me of someone similar who wields a lot of power in this world of ours. Furthermore, the two Weaver girls dress like sluts. The Bransen girls seem to be very much nicer young ladies than the Weaver duo.

laurieb_nyny Nov 30th, 2005 12:31 PM

OOOPS -- 12/13!

Keith Nov 30th, 2005 01:37 PM

"Reminds me of someone similar who wields a lot of power in this world of ours."

I've thought much the same.

If this year's AR runs true to form, we will get one team eliminated next Tiesday, and then a 2 part final the following week.

Since, I asume that we are stuck with them still driving across America, I have my finers crossed for their hitting Wisconsin and Michigan.

Niagra Falls finish? Perhaps they will at least cross into a bit of Ontario on the way there.

Keith

vegasnative Nov 30th, 2005 02:03 PM

jorr,
we have been to Heber City as well, we have even rode that "Heber Creeper" as they call it. It is a nice "slow" train ride. It is pretty country up there!!

Travelkitty Nov 30th, 2005 02:05 PM

The Bransens are really the only family I like. They all seem to treat each other nicely, they're polite to all the people they've met and I think it's sweet how the dad is worried about letting the girls down.

The housewives get on my nerves, the Weavers are hateful and the Linzes are crude. Since the Bransons are the only ones left I like, based on prior experience, it's safe to assume they'll be eliminated next - maybe I should start rooting for the Weavers.

hilda Nov 30th, 2005 02:38 PM

I think the Linz siblings are remarkably poised and composed for their ages, teens and early 20's. Doubt many other sibling groups could do as well. I think there will be a little twist at the next elimination, both Goldlewski and Linz teams had technical problems with batteries. they will surely get the time back and someone will be a suprise bootee. Anyone but the Weavers can win and I'll be happy , they get worse by the week. She is a nut job and those kids are awful. This has not been the most exciting season but the people drama is still worth watching.

Edye Nov 30th, 2005 03:03 PM

I keep falling asleep during the show. Sounds like I am not missing much. It has been very drawn out over the last 3-4 episodes, getting boring. My daughters want the Bransons to win and so do I. Sounds like we'll be disappointed from what I am reading here.

SusanEva Nov 30th, 2005 03:26 PM

I liked the task of laying track for the railroad last night. It's been a pretty slow season, so I keep looking for a few interesting things to tide me over until next season. Also liked seeing the G sisters struggle with backing up the trailer. That would be so me and my sister! SusanEva

moldyhotelsaregross Dec 1st, 2005 03:09 AM

I disagree with the railroad track enjoyment. I hated hearing all the clanking noise. I put it on mute during that scene and relied upon the closed captioning.
