Amana Colonies
I am planning on a short trip to Amana Colonies--never been, just a short getaway. Can anyone tell me of a hotel close to the colonies, like walking distance?

Stoves, dishwashers and refrigerators?

HUH???

The Amana Colonies is a small community in Eastern IA (for those who think it is a town of appliances!) *L* Pretty much a throwback to simpler times. They have crafts, food, bed & breakfasts, etc.

For Laney...I cannot help you...have passed the exit on the interstate but have never been inclined to check it out. There is an outlet mall at the same exit (whoop-dee-doo)...not too exciting.

Your friend

was thinking on visiting the Maytag Colonies - any suggestions on a day trip?

Whirlpool Park and the Frigidaire Empire are DEFINITELY worth a side trip.

The Amana Colonies are special to me because this was one of the first places we visited in Iowa when I went back there 25 years ago to meet my new in-laws. We bought our first piece of furniture, a walnut dining table and chairs from their furniture factory. Also got a wonderful wool blanket that we still use, after all these years. Really is worth a trip. Sorry, I can't help you with hotels, but it looks like there are plenty of walking distance B&B's on that website "laney's friend" gave you and a Holiday Inn, as well. I don't think there's any 4-star hotels there, but you'll probably find rooms that are clean and comfortable.

Thank you "laney's friend," and Jeanne for your helpful responses. To the rest of you jokers hahaha, so NOT funny!
