Amador County

If going for the views, are Sobon and Story wineries good places to visit?

Is there a good place to stop for a lunch in Plymouth, CA?

Sobon and Story are good. But you'll pass 20+ other wineries on the same roads so stop wherever you want.

In Plymouth stop at the Amador Vintage Market which is a deli/beer and wine bar w/really good food and some unique sandwiches. You can eat there or get the fixings for a picnic and eat at one of the wineries.

Across the street from Vintage Market is Taste - a fabulous restaurant. But Saturday is the only day they do lunch. http://www.restauranttaste.com/ reservations definitely required

Thanks Janisj,

We will keep that in mind if we decide to go see Amador County after leaving Oakhurst. It takes longer to get back by going that route but it sounds like it is more scenic and worth the detour. We are more interested in seeing the vineyards and rolling hills and not really interested in tastings because we are probably not stopping overnight there. A picnic lunch sounds great.

What is your favorite vineyard in the area as far as scenery goes?

It is sort of hard to explain since you haven't been there/seen it. No one winery has significantly better/worse/different scenery then the rest. Some individual vineyards are only an acre or two, some are 10 times that - but they are all cheek by jowl next to each other. From some tasting rooms you can see 4 or 5 neighboring vineyards --and all will have basically the same views -or very similar. If you drive the Shenandoah/Shenandoah School roads loop you will be driving through the main Amador wine region and winding up and down hills around many vineyards/wineries/tasting rooms plus the Amador Flower Farm.

The whole drive is scenic . . .

Great! Thanks. I think we would like the Amador Flower Farm.

Which is your favorite spot in the region?

Even though I get up there 2 or 3 times a year (less than hour from my driveway to 'downtown' Plymouth, I haven't tried them ALL yet (that would take a while :) )

But here are a few I try to get to every visit or two:

IMO, the view from the Story tasting room is one of the best. Don't like the wines however.

I live locally and have more to add to the above comments.

For wonderful views, I would add Cooper Vineyards, Convergence Vineyards, and Sierra Ridge Vineyards and Winery. Convergence is just outside of the small town of Ione. Lunch can be purchased at Clark's Corner and taken to Convergence. For Sierra Ridge, stop by Andrae's Bakery in Amador City or Susan's Place in Sutter Creek and get a wonderful lunch.
