Yeah, it's a lovely thought. Yeah, you're young and have no "attachements", but please do your research first. When these people tell you it's expensive, BELEIVE IT!
Have you even looked at the price of food? Gas? HOMES? Rent??? HA!
If you've got that kind of money, go for it. But know what it's like before you quit your jobs and know there is a BIG chance you'll end up as a waitress trying, trying, trying to make the rent! Then, if you decide you can live like that, go for it. Good luck!!!!

saw a great book for you "So you want to live in Hawaii". I just got back and found it on the shelf while I was there. Had all sorts of REALLY practical advice. Sort of a shot of reality. I was thinking the same thing until I read through it. Sorry I don't know the publisher...
I think your desire to stay on Maui after a vacation is a normal but shortsighted response. I was stationed on Oahu for two years, and I can best describe the experience as a 'double-edged'sword. although i loved having luaus on the beach at Christmas, I really found that island life was a bit monotonous for someone who grew up on the east coast and was used to a change of seasons. REMEMBER, the average temp. in the islands only fluctuates about 5 degrees from Jan. to July. I really found the lack of seasons tiring after a while.

I remember saying this to myself when i left Hawaii: "It's a wonderful place to live, for two years..."

My wife still fancies us moving to Hawaii at some point in the future, but for now we just make annual trips to the islands, which keeps us motivated during the long, cold winters in Wyoming....
