Am I crazy?

I have ten days to take a vacation. We are flying to Vegas and going to camp GC south rim for two days, driving to Zion/Bryce for three days.

Would I be nuts to try and go to Yellowstone for a day or two from Zion/Bryce and then drive back to see vegas for a day and fly back out?

We may not have the chance to go back to the west for a couple of years. Quite frankly, the natural wonders to be found appeal to my wife and I much more than the manmade wonders of Vegas. Any thoughts?

Yellowstone is nowhere near any of the other places on your trip.

Perry Feb 28th, 2002 12:23 PM

Wow....that's some heavy duty driving....about 2200 miles minimum just quickly checking the atlas.
Your idea is great, and I too love the national parks much more than the manmade 'wonders', but beware of the trade off. You'll see more things, but be more tired and may have to skimp on the 'quality' of your visits within the parks.
But from a purely technical standpoint, yes, you could see all the things you've asked about.

Marty Feb 28th, 2002 12:34 PM

Yes,you are certifiable if you think that driving from Vegas south to GC, then north to Yellowstone resembles anything like a vacation. Don't be a bufoon.

Pot Feb 28th, 2002 12:39 PM

Marty: you gave me a chuckle there.
That's like telling someone "don't be stoopid", or "lern how too spehll you ignoranus".

D.B. Feb 28th, 2002 12:40 PM

Perhaps you mean Yosemite? But, that's still a bit of drive. Better to waste your money on the slot machnes.
Michael Feb 28th, 2002 12:41 PM

I may be a 'BUFOON' but I'm a buffoon who can spell.

yes Feb 28th, 2002 12:42 PM

Yes, you're crazy.

(tee hee. fiddle dee dee. I haven't even read your posting - just the title. giggle giggle, snort snort.)
I would not consider Yellowstone a reasonable detour from the Southwest - and I tend to go for long car trips (e.g.driving 15 hours one-way for a weekend wedding). The rest of your trip sounds great. If you want to get wild and crazy, throw in Mesa Verde or Canyonlands.

Sammy Mar 10th, 2002 01:12 PM

I can't judge your level of sanity but I can tell you that you are very annoying for using such a vague subject-line.
Connie Mar 14th, 2002 05:53 PM

You actually have a pretty straight shot up interstate that are easy driving.

You need AT LEAST two days to see the major sights or it really wouldn't be worth the drive.

Can you fly out closer to Yellowstone? There are airports at West Yellowstone, Bozeman and Jackson but are pretty expensive. Salt Lake City has much better fares. The drive to SLC will take a few hours but will still be much shorter than the trip you are planning

Connie Mar 14th, 2002 05:54 PM

We actually love driving all over the place on vacations. Part of the fun is seeing the country not just the destination.

Not everybody just sits by a pool for their vacation. I can do that any time.

Gottobe Mar 14th, 2002 10:20 PM

Come on!

Marty Mar 15th, 2002 06:20 AM

Michael,

OK...don't be a B_U_F_F_O_O_N!

Maybe my spelling needs a little work, but you're the idiot for thinking your itinerary makes any sense!
