Alternatives for driving DC to Cape Cod

Due to some unavoidable circumstances, we have to drive on Labor Day from close to Dulles Airport to Cape Cod. We are used to driving up 95 and could do it with our eyes shut.

However, with the holiday travel, we want to try and avoid 95 at all costs. Are there any other recommended routes someway maybe up 15 through Pennsylvania to 81 to somewhere to cut back east?

Thank you for any help!

Try a AAA trip tic, they may be able to map it out for you with options- good luck!

You could take 15 all the way to Scranton and then head east on I-84, which will take your over the Hudson River, eventually into Conn. and to the Mass. Pike.

ttt - see the similar post re:Wash to Boston -- by all means, stay off I-95 -- use 287/84 (check a map!).

Hi,
In your efforts to find a faster route,
you might also consider your arrival time at one of the 2 bridges to the Cape. The traffic could be as long as an hour+ just to get over the Sagamore or the Bourne Bridges.

Happy Driving!
