Yes, because it was very political. I had a sentence removed from one of mine because of that. I knew yours would be gone.
What I said in mine stands for EVERY state that is now trending up. It's time for people to realize that THEY are the problem if they cannont keep themselves socially distant and masked. If a person HAs to go to a bar so bad, rhwy are the problem . WE, as a country, are in DEEP DO DO. It's time to be real.

Since the data is lacking and people are unable to get tested in a timely manner, it may be that the spikes are also due to family gatherings starting earlier than the openings of bars (which was quite late in my county, Los Angeles). Or outbreaks in workplaces or within households.

I think only a week had passed since bars opened in Los Angeles and the press started to comment on California's rising numbers.

Your beaches were open.

Actually, in LA County they were "officially" closed over both the Memorial and July 4 weekends. But again, no enforcement in LA City (which includes Venice but not Santa Monica). Also there were no "official" fireworks shows, which cut down on the beach crowds. We got to endure hours of illegal fireworks over the neighborhoods instead.

Without any real data due to limited availability of testing, there is no way to really know where the virus is spreading. It's all just speculation based on anyone's particular POV. Some experts point to business openings and being forced to go back to work (especially Hispanic and Black lower-income populations where there is a pattern in those neighborhoods of crowded multi-generational housing). I believe East LA neighborhoods have some of the highest infection rates, at least of those tested.

Of course, if you don't live here, you probably subscribe to the image of Los Angeles as a bunch of blonde 20-somethings.

Beaches in San Diego were even open over the 4th of July, but amazingly, were not jam-packed, had about 2/3 of the numbers from last year and people were spaced out quite well.

I have not heard or read of "limited testing" in San Diego.

Most of the problem has been traced to bars and restaurants. The governor, whom most Californians think is handling this well, emphasized that the vast majority of them were doing everything right, nevertheless, all bars and indoor dining and indoor dining are closed for three weeks in the 22 counties in the penalty box.

The ultimate responsibility is on individual people to do the right thing. Wear a mask, wash your hands and stay physically distanced from people who do not live in your household.

Monterey County rolled back yesterday. A large percentage of cases are in the agricultural industry which of course never shutdown. Salinas makes up about a third of our population but has almost 60% of our cases so I think it's mostly essential workers who never stopped working and those who returned to work with the reopenings.

mlgb Jul 7th, 2020 09:38 AM

Of course the young invincibles who get drunk probably aren't social distancing with strangers, LOL. It's a convenient point of focus to take the attention off of other lapses.

Imperial County is not a pretty picture but won't get as much national media play as foreshortened beach photos.

Apparently San Diego got added to the Gub'ners shut down list yesterday.

"Without any real data due to limited availability of testing, there is no way to really know where the virus is spreading. It's all just speculation based on anyone's particular POV. "

Got that right. I don't get any pleasure out of any state having to close up again. I had a lot of admiration for CA closing down as it did. Our DSIL owns 3 restaurants and believe me, they have been hit hard. One of our grandkids is to be a college senior--I would wish for her to have a terrific final year, but that isn't going to happen.

I'm just not sure what it is that you want from this argument. I am certainly not happy staying home forever, away from a very precious 5 year old grandchild, who said to her mother today

"I miss people and rainbows".

So today Newsom had to announce state-wide rollbacks (in recognition of the surging COVID rates).

Bars, both indoor and outdoor, will be forced to close down statewide. Restaurants are being told to cease indoor operations. Outdoor dining and takeout are still allowed.

All counties also have to close all indoor operations at wineries, tasting rooms, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos, museums and cardrooms.

In counties on the state's watch list, even more businesses are being required to close their doors. That includes gyms, hair salons, barbershops, other personal care services, indoor malls, offices in non-critical sectors, and places of worship.

"We've made this point on multiple occasions and that is we're moving back into a modification mode of our original stay-at-home order," Newsom said.

One of many sources showing which counties are on the Watch List (you can hover over each county and see what criteria are failed).

A small clarification for those who don't live in California, the first group of statewide closures have been in effect in the counties on the watch list since July 1.

Wear a mask.

mlgb Jul 15th, 2020 02:29 AM

Avoid gatherings that are inside, including parties with your extended family and friends who you think are "safe". If you can't distance from people you don't know, don't go out.

Businesses need to adopt safe practices for employees and customers.

Governments (state and local) need to get on board with enforcement so that employees aren't the ones in charge of that. No more Mr. Nice Guy. Time to impose fines on the noncompliant.

Address the shortage of test and trace.

Agree 100%. Until there are consequences for non-compliance, we're going to have non-compliance. Anybody throw litter from their cars anymore?

I freaking cannot believe this, just heard on the Noon news that Pasadena has cancelled the 2022 Rose Parada! It has ONLY been cancelled in the past during WW2 starting in 1942.

How about a meeting inside the SFO airport? Still need to quarantine?

A friend has a job opportunity and the company wants an in person interview. Go figure, it's a tech company but they are insisting on in person. If my friend flies into SFO and meets the interviewer INSIDE the airport (federal property I'm being told but feel free to disagree), would he still need to quarantine or could he catch a flight back home the same day?

Jean Jul 16th, 2020 10:21 AM

AFAIK, there is no quarantine for visitors coming to California. But what happens when your friend returns to their home city/state from California? Some states are requiring quarantine for people getting off planes coming from California.

Personally, I would find that in-person interview requirement during Covid a non-starter. A company that is so cavalier about a potential employee's health probably doesn't care much for their actual employees either. If the friend and interviewer sit 6 feet apart somewhere in the airport, it certainly isn't going to be a confidential meeting. If the friend is required to go to the company's offices, the risk of exposure to the virus is multiplied I don't know how many times....

There is currently no required quarantine for travelers arriving in California. These are the current rules.

First of all - as the others say, there is no quarantine to enter California, but the situation when he returns to his home state - that is up to whichever state that is. Second - where on Earth did you get the idea that SFO or any airport is federal property (not that it would make any difference). The US government does not own SFO or JFK or ORD or SMF or LAX nor most any other airport I know of.

BTW - if they did meet at SFO it would have to be landside. If there is no quarantine in his home state he can have a meeting in just about anywhere California . . .
