Alexandria to Georgetown suggestions

Alexandria to Georgetown suggestions
Help! This is such a last minute trip that I have no time to plan. My husband wants me to join him in D.C. on Wednesday. I'm having major surgery next week and he wants me to take my mind off it. We are staying near Alexandria. I'd like to take the Potomac Riverboat tour from Alexandria during the day to Georgetown and return at night when it gets dark. I do have trouble walking long distances, but can take cabs. I'd like suggestions for lunch in Alexandria and dinner in Georgetown--nothing super expensive. We'll be landing at the Washington Dock in Georgetown. Also, I'd like to the the National India Museum--any suggestions for restaurants nearby. My husband was so sweet to get me a ticket and I'm trying to make reservations in advance. Thanks so much for your help. We like all kinds of food. Nancy

Where are you staying in Alexandria, what type of restaurant are you looking for. There are lots of restaurants on King Street near the pier where you will be taking the boat to Georgetown. French, Italian, Brew Pub, Irish, Seafood, Thai?

Hi,
I just called my husband and we're staying at the Marriot in Crystal City, but we'll be in Alexandria on Saturday to see the sights and eat lunch. We also want to go there on Thursday evening to eat. We've never been to Alexandria and want to take some time to see it. We like all kinds of food, Thai, seafood, French, Italian. We probably wouldn't be interested in Mexican as we have that a lot at home. What are some things that we should see in Alexandria? We love history, the water, and tours. Right now I'm not in the best of shape, but am really looking forward to seeing the area. Thanks, Nancy

I'm not sure how walking impaired you are, but walking up & down King Street is part of the fun of Old Town.
The old Torpedo Factory down near the river is an interesting building turned into an arts/craft center. There's a seafood restaurant down on the water that might be good for lunch -- can't recall the name, but it is the only one in the marina area.
For dinner, my favorite French restaurant is Le Refuge. It's on Washington St about a block or so off of King Street. If you want Pub Grub, Murphy's is nice.

Check out the interactive map at www.funside.com to get an idea of Old Town.
On Saturday morning there is an interesting farmers' market at Merchant Square in the heart of Old Town, not big and very good coffee, fresh oj, pastries and a pretty place to sit. From there it is just a very short walk to the waterfront where the Torpedo Factory has lots of artists' studios. It is also a short walk to Alexandria's 18th century museums -- The Carlyle House, The Stabler-Ledbetter Apothecary, and Gadsby's Tavern, although I don't know if you're able to do a tour such as these.
Lots of restaurants on this end of King St. The Chart House is the riverside spot mentioned by Budman. Middle Eastern small plates at 100 King and Mai Thai are also right down close to the water. Union Street has good American food and is only a couple of blocks south of King on Union St.
Taxis are plentiful (any store will call one as well) and there is also a free bus on weekends from the King St. metro station.
