Yannazzo, I don't know what your husband expects from a "b & b" but where I do agree with Doug is that most of the "b & b's" in NYC are really nothing more than self catering apts. in a smaller building. In fact, I see them as a legal way to rent apts. but I guess I could be wrong. Very few actually offer breakfast or a common living room--although there are a few like Inn on 23rd St. that do.

So what is it your husband wants? The convenience of an apartment with a kitchen? A smaller place that offers breakfast? There are lots of other options besides these two. I can't remember if you've looked at any others.

Yannazzo, b/w the 2 you're considering, I'd say Jack's on the UWS is more of a residential neighborhood. Ivy Terrace is really on the edge of midtown and is a bit far east (it's not 30 east but 230 east ;)

Have checked back to your other thread with dates. If budget if foremost, chelsealodgesuite.com is another good option and Wshotel.com in Greenwich Village.

Thank you all...the search continues. Things are booking fast, so I really need to make my decision. It's hard on my budget and not knowing the city, hoping for the best location. Mclaurie, InnNewYorkCity is beautiful, but way out of our range. Those of you with more money really need to check it out. Wish me luck.

If the objective is a decent place to stay for $200/night, don't limit yourself to just b & b's. The Park 79 is a small hotel (more like a b & b) that has a room with double bed, sink and shower and a shared toilet just outside the room for less than $150/night. They also have a room with privat bath for a bit over $200.

Hi mclaurie, thanks to you for all your help. I have realized that I do not have to stay in midtown (especially on my lack of budget):) You highly recommended Jacks so I figure that's a pretty good area. The only drawback with Jack's is the stairs, which I am learning, are appearing everywhere. Do you know anything about The Milburn on 76th St? I emailed them to be sure, but I think there's an elevator. They have kitchenettes and what appears to be a small dining/living area. There are also coin-op washer/dryers. All this for $219 per night. Almost sounds too good to be true. I really don't think I could find anything close to that in midtown... Another thought, some have asked about my reasons for wanting a "B&B"...My husband takes meds that require him to eat beforehand, so milk in a fridge is necessary unless we want to hit the pavement. I wasn't kidding about a freezer for an icepack (him-bad back, me-bad knee). I'd like a washing machine because we will be coming off a cruise, and need clean clothes. All of you have been so great. Please, don't get sick of me. Once I decide on the hotel, I hope you'll be there to help me the rest of the way. Thanks bunches.

It's a good solution. I'll just mention that if what you really need is a fridge, there are also LOTS of hotels that have a fridge in the room but maybe not a kitchen(ette) which would also include a stove or microwave and sink. But you've found a good solution. I'd book it!

That was quite a list Lizziea06. I'm sure we'll try a few of them. Shopping recomendations would be great, especially a grocery store and a place to pick up souvenirs.

There's no shortage of food stores in that neighborhood. Fairway, Zabar's, Citarella are all famous. There will be regular supermarkets too.

Not sure what you have in mind for souveniers but most of those sorts of shops are in Times Square or at least midtown. Some of the best souveneirs can be found in museum shops though. The Mus. of Natural History is in your neighborhood and the Metmuseum.org is across the park. The gift shop there has fantastic gifts imo.

Sephora is a chain on cosmetic stores and will do free makeovers, but you probably need an appointment.

Do not miss Gray's Papaya for hot dogs on Broadway & 72 st.
