Alcatraz, day or night tour??

I am in the beginning stages of planning our trip to San Francisco and the wine country and would like some to know if the night tour of Alcatraz is better than the day tour. We will be in SF Oct. 18,19 and 20 before moving on the Healdsburg.

Dave - there are a few posts regarding which is better and I think that the consensus is that the night tour is preferred. I have only been on the night tour but I can tell you that it did not feel crowded and we were able to see areas that the day tours do not get to see. When you start to finalize your plans, DO buy your tickets in advance from the official website www.alcatrazcruises.com. Enjoy your trip.

You MUST buy tickets in advance - the tours sell out, day and night.

We've done both and liked them equally. We did the evening tour in September and took our kids on the day tour in July. If you opt for the day tour and want to avoid the crowds, book the first tour of the day. We had the place to ourselves and by the time we were ready to leave it was packed.

I liked the day tour better...seems like we had more time to look around.

I believe we will try the night tour. I tried the website to buy my tickets in advance and it only lets you buy up to October 18th. We will check back in a few days as we want the tickets for October 20. Thanks to all who replied, I appreciate it.
