Do not go on Princess Cruise Lines with kids, very stuffy....We went about 2 years ago on Royal Carribbean "Legend of the Seas" what a beautiful ship and with a special section just for kids. Since the Alaskan cruise, we have no desire to cruise anywhere else. Have a good time and bring lots of film. If while in Juneau, take a helicopter ride to walk on the glacier....

I have to disagree with Ms. Fox's reply concerning the choice of cruies lines to take on an Alaska Inside passage Cruise. I would rate Princess as the Best overall for price, food, ambiance,(not stuffy but perhaps more classy), and facilities for children and teens. The newer ships like the Sun and Dawn Princess have absolutely the best facilities you can find anywhere. I have travelled on Crystal, Holland American, Royal Viking, Royal, and American Hawaii. As far as things to do in Alaska, The helicopter trip to the glacier is great but wildly expensive at about $250.00/person! I would recommend the train ride in Skagway; only about $15.00 and an unbelieveable ride to the top of the mountain in Canadian Territory. Alaska is more beautiful than any other area I have ever been; you will have a great time.

I have been to Alaska on Holland America and loved it. Go with the best price. Princess, Royal Carribean, and Holland are your mid to top cruise lines. You will enjoy any of them. Pre-teen or teen will find plenty to do. Helicopter ride, kayate, hiking, etc. There is plenty of Movies, and Games, also spas and gyms. Enjoy, you have made a good choice. Book Early it does make a difference in price.

I did the inside passage in July on the Universe Explorer. It's a one-ship line, casual, small, with an educational thrust. That doesn't mean ponderous. It just means you have available to you superb lecturers on Alaskan animal life, anthropology, geology, and history. Besides that all the usual - food, drink, fitness, entertainment. But no casinos. It's a two-week cruise, which sounded like too much Alaska to me before I did it, but I loved it. We went up the passage, stopping at every other port, usually for all day choices of excursions. On the way back down, we stopped again at every other port, seeing the ones we bypassed on the way north. There's a great library aboard. The Fillipino crew is warm and obliging. The food is good but not gourmet. The price is right.

We're planning an Alaskan cruise and land tour for this summer and trying to pick a ship and itinerary where the wildlife is outside the ship rather than inside. We are four adults and frequent travelers but we've never been to Alaska. We're hoping to find a smaller ship, non-smoking, with nice accommodations and good meals. Would welcome any suggestions from anyone who has experienced a trip like this. (so far, we're leaning toward the Yorktown Clipper and Alaska Sightseeing West Cruises) Please e-mail, if possible.

We are considering an Alska cruise with Grand Circle Travel. The US. Universe Exploerer looked good but we were thinking that 14 days on the ship may be too long. We're also considering a 6 day land trou from Fairbanks of Anchorage then embark on the Norwegian Dynasty for a 7 day cruise. Any suggestions out there. Please e-mail me at [email protected]
Thanks

I would suggest Celebrity - and definitely not Princess, which I consider a mediocre cattle boat with food little better than airlines. Our trip with Celebrity in the summer of 1996 was most pleasant, and I have heard good things about Holland American. My brother went on one of the Explorer boats and enjoyed it.
