Alaska Volcano - what is going on?

Read a few days ago that there is some volcano 100 miles from Anchorage about to erupt. Any new info on this - just curious, not planning a trip. We find this somewhat ironic since we have a run of natural disasters in areas we have recently visited (and we were in Alaska last summer)

Read all about Redoubt on AVO website

"Seismic unrest continues at Redoubt. Though seismic activity has diminished since Friday afternoon, it is still above normal background levels.

AVO continues to observe potential activity with seismic, satellite and radar data. The volcano has not erupted.

An AVO observation flight this afternoon reported no sign of ash emission, but observed significant steaming from a new melt depression at the mouth of the summit crater near the vent area of the 1989-90 eruption.

The Aviation Color Code remains at ORANGE and the Volcano Alert Level remains at WATCH."

It is right across the inlet from us.. all the schools are prepared.. we have emergency supplies.. and it's a balmy -11F today..

this happens periodically up here, so we are used to it.. we had a 6.1 earthquake associated with it a few days ago..
the ash creates all sorts of problems with engines, eyes, breathing, pets.

It is predicted to blow within a week now. I should buy a ticket to Hawaii.((I))

well, Mt. Redoubt messes with us every few years.. and one or two others.. we have the ring of fire right at our doorstep.. between Calif. and Japan.

when I lived in the Aleutians, we had one spewing lava and glowing bright red at night.. but here, no tsunami danger..

in winter, it's an extra headache, with cold temps..

Hoping the wind moves any ash away from us.. and doesn't disrupt air traffic too much.. fingers crossed.%%-
