Alaska State Ferry strike

A strike by the Inland Boatman's Union has shut down the Alaska State ferry system, potentially stranding thousands of passengers and vehicles throughout the system.

The dispute centers on pay increases which the State says are "unreasonable." The ferry system faces deep budget cuts as Alaska grapples with falling state revenues.

Anyone planning travel on the ferry system in the near future should probably be working on contingencies.

Oh boy. That's going to spoil some vacationers' plans.

But for residents, it's not just the ferry system.

Maybe the Permanent Fund shouldn't be untouchable?

This sure makes taking a cruise sound like a better choice than DIY using the Ferry system.
