Alaska rough itinerary NEED help, never been there.

Jump to last reply

Hi, I am a resident of California and is planning a 9 day trip to alaska from 17th June to 26th June of this year. We are four people my parents, my spouse and myself.Since my mother has some minor knee issues, we are only looking to do easy/moderate excursions.

I have so far booked most of the hotels, car rental, Kantishna bus tour and air flights. We are arriving arnd 4:00 am on 17th June in anchorage and our return flight is at 11:30 pm from anchorage on 26th June

The Itinerary i have planned so far is

Day 1 : Arrive anchorage in the morning, Drive to seward, take the exit glacier ranger led walks, sea life center, explore city [night stay in seward]

Day 2 : Take the Kenai Fjords full day cruise(not booked yet), after cruise explore city or someplace nearby ? [Night Stay in Seward]

Day 3 : Drive to whittier, Take the 26 glacier tour(not booked yet), after that take the alyeska aerial tram, drive to girdwood/anchorage [Stay in girdwood/anchorage]

Day 4 : explore Girdwood/Whittier/Portage/anchorage area activities , take the matanuska glacier guided short hike head to palmer [stay in palmer]

Day 5 : Drive to valdez via
to worthington glacier, drive to Thompson Pass and valdez, Explore Valdez [Stay in Valdez]

Day 6 : Explore valdez ? [Stay in valdez](maybe stay in Glennallen to reduce next day drive ?)

Day 7 : drive to Fairbanks via ( via Richardson Hwy)[Stay in Fairbank]

Day 8 : Explore Fairbanks, chena spring(optional) and drive to denali national park [ Night Stay near the national park entrance]

Day 9 : Explore Denali Park, take bus tour(Kantishna) (already booked) [Night Stay in healy]

Day 10 : drive to anchorage( 4.5hrs non stop) , explore something on the way and take the return flight in the night at 11:45pm.

- Some of the things that we would like to do: Walk on a glacier, drive around country side, do easy hike, take some boat tours to nearby islands for wildlife watching, and anything else that's not too adventurous.

- Hotels: Anyplace which is good and safe.Although i have booked most of the hotels they are refundable and i can change if i need to change the itinerary.

-Food: My mother and my spouse are vegetarian(no meat and fish), so it would be great if someone can suggest some good vegetation restaurants (preferably indian food)

- Driving: I think we have no problem driving 4-6 hrs in a day.I have booked a SUV for this trip btw so it should be comfortable.

I hope this gives enough background. It would be great if someone can give me suggestions or recommendations on how to make this trip more memorable .
