Alaska or Alberta?

We had recently been to Canadian rockies.
Can someone who has been to both Alaska and Canadian rockies, comment which is a better destination as far as beautiful pictures and scenery is concerned?

We would fly to anchorage, drive and ferry around(more than 15 day trip).

We dont want to plan a trip to Alaska if its going to be not as great as Canadian Rockies.

I like both really well. If you have been to the Canadian Rockies but not to Alaska, by all means, take that Alaskan trip.

Of the areas in Alaska that are relatively easy to get to by road, IMO the Kenai Peninsula (Seward/Valdez/Homer and the areas in between each) are the most visually spectacular. Kodiak Island is also great but involves relatively inexpensive scheduled flights or ferry trips. Many people also like the Denali area but, for me, it comes in a distant second to the Kenai.

There are also a number of areas with stunning scenery and wildlife off the road system. Since they involve bigger bucks to get to and stay, I have never had the opportunity to visit them but would like to some day, wallet permitting.

Alaska will be a different visual experience than the Canadian Rockies but, for me, every bit as satisfying.

Have a great trip.

I love the Canadian Rockies, but I'd give anything to go back to Alaska again!

I feel the same way as Dwooddon and
Utahtea. I too would give anything to go back to Alaska again. LOL! I AM going back in only few weeks!
You cannot really compare these two places. It's like comparing Montana's Glacier NP and Smokey Mountains NP. Both spectacular in many different ways. We have some gorgeous pictures from Canadian Rockies and endless amazing photos from many trips to Alaska. When are you going? If you start reading posts about Alaska on this forum soon you should realize why so many fodorites love this destination and why so many of us return there again and again. If you decide on Alaska be assured scenery will overwhelm you at first. Hope this helps

Thanks for the responses.
Got no negative response. So we will definitely go.

We returned from Canadian Rockies only a few weeks ago. Alaska planning I am doing for the next summer. Thought I would need that much time to study the area/attractions and decide where/how to go.

Thanks Again.

njs, after your initial research if you decide on specific accommodations make your reservations soon. I don't think that in December 2006 or January 2007 is too early to start reserving your lodging for visit between June and mid-September. Also check out car rental rates. With 15 days available you can come up with a great itinerary including most scenic places in Alaska. Have fun planning your trip.
