Alaska lodging/trip on a budget

Jump to last reply

We have received free airfare to Alaska and plan to go next year early June. This is someplace we have always wanted to go. We are financially challenged though. We love to hike and just take in scenery. We don't want any special tours or whatnot so that is not the problem. The problem is the lodging prices. Are there any ways to get it cheaper or any places/towns in particular that are not as pricey?

We are thinking about Anchorage,Seward and Denali but are open to other places that may be more affordable. Anchorage is only our starting point. We don't want to hang out in the city. We will be renting a car.

Also my husband doesn't do cruises or boats of any sort. Are there ways to see wildlife and glaciers etc... without the cruise tours?
