Alaska itinerary help, Homer?
 

Flying in and out of ANK in August and doing a road trip for 2 1/2 weeks
Itinerary so far is:
Day 1- arrive pm and overnight Anchorage
Day 2- drive to Talkeetna, stay overnight or do Anchorage another night and explore Anchorage and drive next day to Talkeetna for lunch, then onto Denali
Day 3 and 4- stay in Healy and visit Denali. Also doing a flightseeing Trip over Denali (full day)
Day 5- drive to Seward and stay 3 nights
Day 8- this is where I need help! Was thinking about going to Homer for 3 nights and use as home base to explore, suggestion?
Day 11-16- Going to a fishing lodge for 5 nights in Soldotna/Kenai
Day 17- Anchorage for the day then catch an evening flight home

Due to the amount of miles, you might overnight in Anchorage after you do Denali. We liked Independence Mine on the way to Talkeetna. There things to see and do between Anchorage and Seward and you might need a lot of time just for photo ops. The silvers should be running. I think it was Bird Creek which we could see from the Seward Hwy. It's quite a sight to see the fish and fishermen. There's Alyeska area and tram, etc. You can easily spend the day just getting to Seward from Anchorage.

I like Homer a lot. Also liked stopping at farmers markets and the one in Homer is one of the places we stopped. Museum is great. Nice town to walk around. You have options for flightseeing and also going across the bay.

Can't comment on fishing lodge although we wandered around river in late June on one trip and a net fisherman gave us a salmon to cook. Both Kenai and Soldotna are regular suburban towns, too.

A copy of the Milepost would help you with things to do along the way and help plan your time.

We enjoyed our stay in Homer.
We had a nice side trip to Halibut Cove which you reach by boat from Homer- the Danny J. Had dinner at the Saltry Restaurant-fresh halibut- only place to dine there.
If you have any intention of doing this, you must make reservations as soon as you know- fills up quickly for dinner.
After dinner, you can walk to a few artist studios along the boardwalk.
It was a very enjoyable evening- dress warmly. We had dinner outside on the deck, quite chilly even though a fire raging in the fireplace

We stayed at the Alaskan Suites- nice cabins with panoramic views of the bay- but not right on the water.

You have described our trip. Yes, include Homer and Halibut Cove. Eat the local oysters. We stopped overnight between Anchorage and Seward at Girdwood,, Seven Glaciers. You will drive past Turnagain Arm driving south, stunning beauty.We also took a float plane over to Katmai nP from Homer to see bears catching and eating salmon at the waterfalls.A lifetime thrill! Pricey but worth it.
We loved Talkeetna too.After this land portion, we flew to Juneau to board a small expeditionary ship and explore SE Alaska.
