Alaska Inside Passage Weather in May/June
Crusing inside passage round trip from Vancouver for seven days--last of May. Any weather tips and sight seeing shore excursions will be most appreciated. Sailing on the Galaxy. Comments???

Weather in the Inside Passage at that time? Grab a map and check out the name of the biggest national monument in that area: it's called "Misty Fjords" Got any idea how it got that name? Ketchikan has rain over 320 days a year; I doubt you'll be lucky during the rainy season. Now, before you cancel your tickets, let me say that you will LOVE your time here, no matter how much it rains. View the totem poles in Ketchikan, the churches in Sitka, and the Red Dog Saloon in Juneau. Or just go "ooh" and "aah" everytime some beautiful fjord appears -- you'll be doing it a lot! Enjoy your visit!!!

Follow up to my previous post -- for climatological data over a 35 year period in Alaska, check out www.cdc.noaa.gov/~cas/climo/polys/alaska.html For the lower 48, check out www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/shtml Over this time period, rainfall in June on Annette Island had a mean of 12.3 cm. Not exactly sunny!

I worked on Celebrity's Horizon last summer in Alaska. Had the best time of my life. The weather can be alittle rainy and damp, especially in May, so bring a rain coat. It can also be quite warm, too! Feel free to e-mail me with questions, but here are some suggestions. Helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau (as well as tram to top of Mt. Roberts mountain which is right off of pier), White Pass and Yukon Rail Road in Skagway, Totem Poll Park and Raptor Center in Sitka, shopping on Creek Street in Ketchican, Iditarod dogsled racing in Seward (a must!). If you are active people, I can tell you adventerous excursions to take. Also, great restaurants and shopping!
