Alaska Hunt
Hubby is going on an Alaskan hunt 150 miles west of Ancorage in September. He will be dropped off in the wilderness by Rust Flying Service. This is a 1st for him. He will have a companion. The hunt lasts 11-12 days. Does anyone have any experience with such trip? Any advice, including supplies to bring? Thanks, OSB.

With no disrespect, but if he's relying on advice from a travel bulletin board about what to take into the Alaska bush in September for a two week hunting trip, he should reconsider his plans.
This is serious business, involving firearms, wilderness survival skills, high-level predators, poor communications and transport systems, unpredictable weather, and lots more. If he's an experienced back country hunter, fine. Presumably his companion is, too. If neither have the skills, then I guess my advice is to talk to Rust's (a great outfit, BTW) about some guiding assistance. |
He should call Joe Hendricks, Master Guide at Fair Chase Hunts in Anchorage:
907-274-3996 or email him at: [email protected] |
Thanks for both your replies. He is an avid hunter. That is his life where we live. He's read alot and watched alot of videos of Alaska hunts. Has done one hunt in Canada. I was just asking for some insider info of someone who has had experience with Rust and this type of hunt. Hubby is scientifically packing his bags as we speak. He's renting a satillite phone and will have a GPS gadget also.
He actually had a guide lined up but, at the last minute, he has withdrawn ( a friend of a friend). Thanks again! OSB. |
I presume moose hunting? Rust's is a big and reputable outfit. Are they provding more than drop off/pick up service?
|
From what I understand, they check on them a couple times during the time they are there. Will pick up their kill etc.OSB.

Dear Old,
With all respect, may I suggest that you try this question on another site/forum? I am a hunter as well but would not get into a hunting discussion on this site. Best of luck to your husband! |
OK, do you know of another, more suitable site? Thanks! OSB.
