Alaska day cruise...how early?
You are all VERY helpful here and we have a detailed trip planned for 3 weeks in July with most of the "big" stuff already reserved.
Wondered how early we need to actually book the PWS and Kenai Fjords day cruises. Our itinerary is fairly structured but wanted to know how much flexibility to leave in our plans. We also wondered how early to book a lot of the other side trips (Kenai river raft, Seward kayak, Katmai bear flights). Also, the Alaska railroad has options regarding which cars?? What's that about and which are best or does it matter? Thanks again! |
It's a good idea to book ahead, especially if you have the 2-for-1 coupons from the TourSaver coupon book. However, I've never had a problem, even booking within 5 days. I hate to risk being turned away, tho'.

You will need to book ahead anything you don't want to miss. Some of your choices have very few slots- like the bear watch and kayak- so if not flexable by a few days, book ahead for a sure thing. If you are going to use Toursaver coupons also book when your plans are firm, again limited space.

I can asure you that your bear watching trip from Homer, if you decide to use Emerald Air Service, should be booked ASAP. Some dates in July are already fully booked. There are only 9 places available for each day. I would call today. Good luck!
As to kayaking trip in Homer and Valdez, they are always available when we arrive there but have no idea about Seward |
What about PWS cruise from Whittier on June 12? Do you think I can book late?
|
If PWS is a must do, book ahead. If not then wait.

Thank you so much for the helpful advice! We will get all the details finalized and reserve our activities ASAP.
