Alaska Cruise July 2010

We want to have a 7 day or so cruise to Alaska this June allowing us to rest and also see as much as possible of scenery and wildlife. We would prefer a smaller ship rather than a huge cruise boat. any suggestions?

Your post says June your Topic says July. Not that it makes much difference, but might to some. I think late June or July would be a better time to go than early June.

Never been on a cruise ( nor ever wanted to) but it seems to be the best way to see Alaska. Any suggestions- smaller the better.

In the travel section of your bookstore there are books that review and describe each cruise ship and help you match up to the ship that will be the best fit for you.

This company is more expensive than the larger cruise lines but it is certainly what you are looking for. http://www.cruisewestalaska.com/

I'm completely with you on the advantages of a small-ship cruise, but you need to be aware of the downside ... namely cost. You'll pay 2 to 4 times the cost of a big-ship cruise to take a small-ship cruise. A small-ship cruise usually costs over $4,000 for the cruise alone (and often more), as opposed to perhaps $1,800 for a big-ship. If you can afford the cost differential, then definitely go for it.

Cruise West is a good company, as is Lindblad. And there are others. You'll absolutely increase your chances of seeing wildlife up close and personal.

Two well recommmended small cruises for Alaska are Cruise West and Lindblad. Look and compare others.
