Alaska 6 night itinerary
Arriving Anchorage by air June 12 for six nights. Want to see as much as possible of key sights during that time. Please recommend sights and places to visit. Places to stay and eat also appreciated. Not budget minded this trip.

Absolute Alaska Rule No 1 -- buy the Milepost for info on where to go, how to get there, where to stay, and what to do once you're there.
Rule No 2 -- get out of Anchorage as soon as you can; there's nothing there you won't find in a hundred other mid-sized US cities. Nothing wrong with that, but why go to Alaska and see nothing you can't see at home?
Suggestions: Drive to Homer. Drive to Seward and take cruise around Kenai Fjords Nat Park. Drive to Valdez and take cruise around Prince William Sound.
Drive to Denali and have 90% chance of seeing grizzly bears in the wild.
All of the above will take up MUCH more than six nights, so decide what YOU consider a "key sight" (mountains? glaciers? wildlife? fishing? hiking?) and then pick those sights to the exclusion of the others.

Hi, Ileen,
Not a lot of time unless you love driving lots (a bonus, though, long, long days in June.)
If it's not a budget trip, why not catch a float plane at Lake Hood in Anchorage and fly out for a couple of nights to a fishing cabin or lodge - most of the "key sights" in Alaska are best seen in the bush, off the road system. Check out http://www.alaskafishing.com/trans.html
Good luck!

Our favorites from our trip 6 yrs ago: 1. full day Kenai Fjords trip from Seward--whales, glaciers, puffins, etc. 2. I can't remember the name, but it was a cemetary between Anchorage and Alaska with spirit houses (who can supply name and location?). 3. Bus trip into Denali (we took the fist school bus of the day)to see bear, caribu, moose, dall sheep, eagles, ptarmigin. We got out and hiked a short way on the tundra--quite an experience. 4. Whitewater rafting at Denali--very challenging. 5. Cultural Show at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks--corny but sincere kids entertaining. 6. The absolute highlight of our trip was an overnight flight to Barrow (6 tourists that day). We stayed at the Top of World Hotel, ate at Pepe's North of the Border, toured the town, talked to locals, and bought crafts at half the price in the cities. At that time there was a "tour package" that included a few locals putting on a show at which we got to know them (and we saw them later on many postcards).
Personal opinion--because of time I wouldn't go all the way to Homer.
