Alan Wong Restaurant

I just made a reservation for Alan Wong's restaurant in Waikiki but was wondering what is the Pineapple Room? Is that something I should look into - is it something special that is better than just a regular reservation in the dining room?

The Pineapple Room is Alan Wong's restaurant in Macy's at Ala Moana Center. Alan Wong's original is in an office building in Makiki. I've been out of town for a few months though, so is it possible he opened one in Waikiki?

I think Shar is a bit confused, Alan Wong's [as lcuy states] in not on Waikiki but in a commercial/ residential area. Here is a review I wrote [as part of a trip report here] after our visit in October 2006.

Saturday night found us celebrating our anniversary so it was off to Alan Wong’s in HNL.

The restaurant is located in a residential area and would not have been spotted if we didn’t have excellent directions. While it doesn’t have an ocean view, the view from the lanai where we were seated had a lovely view of Manoa Valley before the sun set and had city lights twinkling after sunset.

We had the 8 course chef’s tasting which we both agreed was THE BEST MEAL we have EVER had!! Opihi shooter with raw limpet, soup and sandwich [red and yellow chilled soup and pork, mozzarella and foie gras grilled cheese sandwich { it was the first time I’d ever had foie gras and I was bothered because of the incorrectness behind it}; seared foie gras with cutney; steamed egg flan in an egg shell with truffle oil; Big Island lobster and abalone [both farm raised]; maui beef tenderloin and shrimp crusted moi. This was followed by dessert sampler with sorbet, cookies, cake, and pudding. And an anniversary plate of truffles.

The top of our menus had “Happy Anniversary “and our names printed on it and it was signed by everyone in the restaurant. We were given the menus to take home which was a nice touch.

That meal remains the top of our list as the best meal we ever had; and there are some really notables on that list.

I don't know about the Pineappel Room, but I agree 100% with DEbit's post. I had the exact experience as he/she had. After 9 plus years, Alan Wong in Honolulu is the singularly best restaurant I have been to in the islands. It also had a very nice wine list which can be rare in Hawaii. Highly recommend the place. I intend to go back there in May.

Now I'm confused.......I meant Honolulu. The address I have is 1857 S. King Street and I don't think that is the Shopping Center. So I guess I'm at the original?

Yes, that is the address of the one we went to; it is NOT the Pineapple Room restaurant [which IS in the Shopping Center.]
