Alamo convertible

I was looking into renting a car in MIA with a drop off in FLL this winter. On Alamo's website, the Mustang convertible or similar is one of the least expensive options- less expensive than even an economy or compact car. This seems odd to me- am I missing something? I thought convertibles were usually some of the more expensive cars to rent (been renting cars for years but usually go with a full size or premier, but the convertible is almost half the price this year?)

Is this a guarantee of a convertible - usually they don;t give you that except for higher rates. This may be "or similar" and they give you a super tiny car.

We rented a convertible in Florida, way back when, thinking it would be fun--but it wasn't. It rained a lot, and we were a big target driving on the beach.

There is a reason Alamo is offering convertibles at bargain rates.

It might just be that they need to get some convertibles up to Fort Lauderdale. Is the rate the same if you pickup Miami and return Miami?

A convertible is for people who travel light....ie not much luggage space.

I ended up with an Alamo convertible as a free upgrade renting in FLL. I thought it would be fun. I found myself trying to figure out how to open and close top at 11 PM at the hotel - they don't come with directions. I discovered I did not like the feeling of the wind in my hair while trailing a trash truck on the interstate. I left the top up for most of the trip - except when I picked up my brother who said he always wanted to drive along the ocean in South Beach (Miami) in a convertible.

If its cheaper, why not.

We rented a Mustang convertible in San Diego (can't recall from which company) and were surprised what a large car it was. Plenty of luggage space. It was fun. It ceftainly wasn't the cheap option, though. I would go for if if the price is right.

Pricing for rental cars is very variable. I think DebbieDoesDulles is probably right, there's some internal reason for the low price. Go for it!

You are looking far in advance, and certain vehicles, like "impulse" upgrades of convertibles are not unusual. Go for it.
