Alaeloa, Napili, Maui
 

I'd appreciate any insight about this small group of cottages. I know they are old (1965), but they look peaceful. We prefer low-rise, low-density. Would be staying in March after staying in South Kihei. Too much of a shock after newer (2000) condo?

They are old but for that very reason they are located along one of the nicest beaches in the area and built at a time before the real estate boom allowing low density. Also the cottages and grounds are spacious and spread out and some may be closer walking distance to the beach but it really shouldn't matter. Instead I would be more concerned on which unit was most recently renovated. Rental properties are required to maintain a standard but some are kept up better than others. It is peaceful and near the beach but you will need a car to get around for everything else.

offlady -- Thanks so much. I've only received one response from three VRBO's I asked for information. I know the complex is lovely and have always thought my DH and I would like it. We stay two months at our own place in South Kihei, but have decided to extend a month next March. We are *living* on Maui to escape midwest winter, not exactly *vacationing* after all these years. So...the interior is important. We won't like a month of saggy bed, 40-watt reading lamps, whatever after our own 'newer' place. I see more comparable condos to ours in Kapalua, but wow, that *wind*! (And we don't golf.)

Our family friend had owned one of these units many years ago as an investment so our family stayed there, and I had seen several other interior units, but this was many years ago. Usually the office manager or resident manager would know which rental units are the most popular and have the nicest interior, if you are able to contact them. They would give you a more honest and unbiased answer than the VRBO rental agent.

Thanks, offlady. I did call the resident manager, who emailed me a list of owners who rent. However, he made it clear that he does *nothing* beyond that!

Damor - I think I just looked in the white pages. (We didn't rent there after all. We just planned to stay longer in our own condo in future, especially considering the tax savings we enjoy as owners!)
