Alabama coast

Going to be in Alabama for about 1-2 days en route to somewhere else, and am looking for recommendations for a good beachfront place. Doesn't have to be fancy, just 3 guys sharing a place to crash. Thanks in advance!

Where are you headed to? I was making a trip to New Orleans a couple years back and was very excited to visit and explore the Alabama coast. I was deeply disappointed, and saddened. So much of what I saw still showed the impact of Katrina. It may seem like old new to us, but the effects are still tangible there. Many businesses were abandoned and nobody moved in. Areas that had been damaged were never fully cleaned and repaired. Lots of people had left, and many of those remaining had fallen on very hard times. My advice would be to drive through as quickly as you could and get to your ultimate destination. I had a hard time even finding a place to eat that wasn't a Sonic or McDonald's!

qwovadis is correct in saying that your news is old news, Shandy1977. Gulf Shores/Orange Beach/Perdido ( they all run together on a stretch of highway ) are all beautiful & have many good places to eat. I could list several that we frequent a few times each year.
All the standard budget hotel chains are there ( on the beach ). I think my mom prefers Best Western. Usually when we're there, we stay at Perdido Beach Resort which is pricey.
