ala moana to chinatown
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how far a walk it is from ala moana beach park (area where we are staying) to chinatown. I'll be pushing a double stroller, so continuous sidewalks are a must.
Thanks for your help. :) Also, does anyone know what days/hours the farmers market is open in chinatown? Is there a best day to go? When veggies are freshest? I'll be in town all of Sept and plan on doing most of our produce shopping there. Thanks! |
Ooooh, no no, you can't walk. It's not walking distance. It's at least 2 miles (closer to 3). You should catch the bus.
Chinatown is open 7 days a week. For more information try http://www.chinatownhi.com/ |
I'll emphatically second that it's too far to walk. I can't even picture a route in my head.
There's a nice farmer's market at Kapiolani Community College (between Kapiolani Park on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki and the entrance to Diamond Head) on Saturday mornings, too. Get there early, though, because the good stuff goes fast. It's also too far to walk, but would probably be worth the bus trip. |
You can check at www.thebus.org for schedules, prices, and a list of what all you can and can't bring on the bus (it's funny).

I agree with Melissa. It's way too far to walk.
Here's a list of other farmer's markets. http://www.hawaiiag.org/Markets/marketslist.htm If you are in the area, the Kam Drive In Swap Meet has lots of veggies. It is on the opposite side of Pearlridge Shopping Center. Wed, Sat, Sun. |
Absolutely too far especially with a double stroller. There is a lot of traffic, asphalt, concrete and a hot sun, so it would not be a pleasant walk.
There might be a farmer's market at the McCully Shopping Center which is not that far from Ala Moana. I'm not sure which days its there, you can check to be sure. |
Thanks very much for all of your help. We definitely won't be walking to chinatown! Maybe the bus or when my husband gets home from work we can drive.

There's a trolley that takes you all around the city and it's worth riding b/c the driver also gives you a tour. It's pretty cheap - $10/day and you can get on and off as often as you want. It goes to Chinatown and also to Ala Moana (they sell the tickets at the Ala Moana center as well as other places). I'm sure it would be no problem to take your stroller.
