airports near boston
 

We can fly to Providence, Hartford, or somewhere in New Hampshire (I don't remember the city)lots cheaper than flying into Boston. How hard/expensive would it be to get there, would it save any money? I assume we don't want to rent a car as I've heard it's more of a liability than asset.

Hi, <BR> <BR>Portsmouth, NH and Providence, RI are both about an hour from Boston. You will need a car to get from either of those airports to Boston. Depending on where you're staying and what you want to do, you might be better off flying in to Logan.

You may be thinking of Manchester airport in Manchester NH. This is a wonderful airport to get in and out of, very user friendly. However it's a haul to Boston, about an hour in good traffic. I suspect there are shuttle vans that go to Boston from here, but I don't know the cost. Unless there's a real savings, I'd stick with Logan.

Gail, There is an airport in Portsmouth but only Pan Am goes into it . If you go there the Trailways bus station in nearby. It's an hours ride to downtown Boston. If you fly into Manchester, multiple airlines go here. There are several shuttle services which can take you into Boston. I have used Flight Line. Because of the Big Dig, driving into Boston is a hassle and parking is always a hassle there. Kathy

Hartford is just over an hour and is a decent "gateway" to the Boston area, but you would need to rent a car unless you find there's a bus/limo service to Logan. <BR> <BR>FYI, however, from our airport (RDU), it's always more expensive to fly into the non-hub airports than it is to Logan. So check prices carefully.

<BR>Hi Gail. One small correction in Tar Heel's statement that Hartford is just over an hour away from Boston. It is more like 1.5 hours in light traffic. And traffic in and around Boston is rarely light. If you are staying on the outskirts of Boston you may want to fly into either Manchester or Providence. If you plan to stay in downtown Boston I'd say you're probably better off flying into Logan.
