Hi all,

We are coming end of December to San Franciso
and staying at a hotel on Lombard...we have a rental car, but will be bringing it back tot he airport for the last couple of days there (we know we don't need it) and would like to know the best way to get back from the airport to Lombard Street...is taxi cheapest or city transit???

City transit is cheapest. Take BART.

The cheapest way is as the poster above said - BART. But you will have to take the bus from BART back to your hotel. Check out the bus map on www.sfmuni.com. The #45 and #30 will get you back to Lombard Street.

You might want to check with your car-rental company and see if you can do a no-charge drop in the City. If so, you'd save yourself some aggravation.

If you don't have luggage, then BART and MUNI bus are the cheapest. You will have to buy a ticket for BART and a separate one on the bus.

If Lombard @ Van Ness, check out also bus lines 47, 49 and 19 from Civic Center (at daytime!)

If with luggage, how many is in "we"? For 2 people a shuttle will be good, check for coupons on-line or in the tourist booklets. No need to make advance reservations, just hop on the first one.

Will look into a city frop-off for the car...great suggestion.
