Airport hotels...do you stay there?
have you ever stayed in an airport hotel? I find it to be kind of cool...expensive, but cool and convenient.
|
Why in the world would you find an airport hotel to be "cool?"
|
Maybe cool is not the right word...more interesting to stay in the airport.
|
Yes, when I've just needed to overnight for an early flight out the convenience is worth it.
|
Okay, an "airport hotel" generally refers to the groups of hotels near or around an airport.
You're talking about an "in-terminal" hotel or one that's right AT the airport. I don't see a big difference, actually. The Westin SF Airport is off-site and is almost ON the runways. |
Only when my flight is leaving at 5 am or some other ridiculously early hour.
|
yes I do mean an in-terminal hotel.

I've stayed at the Hyatt Hotel in the Orlando airport when I had an ungodly early flight.
|
I didn't find it to be interesting or cool at all...just a convenience of staying in the same place as the departing flight at a crazy hour of the morning. I have stayed in the airport hotel a number of times for this reason, and found it to be loud (you can hear the planes), lacking in service and amenities, and in need of a decent restaurant. If you have another option, I'd recommend choosing that one.

We always stay near the airport when we have early flights - it's much more convenient to sleep in an extra hour and not have to fight rush hour traffic. Plus we take advantage of "Stay, Park and Fly" options and it usually only costs about $20.00 more than airport parking.

In-terminal hotels are nice for late arrivals, ie, after midnight, when you don't want to have to tackle a rental car and driving in a strange location right away, too.
|
Only if stuck overnight at the airport. And I have always found them to be quite inexpensive - way less than the same hotel brands in town. (Was stuck at Logan one night due to an ice storm and I think the Hilton was only like $130 or so - but it was February.)

In Hong Kong on the way back from Bali, it was definitely a cool hotel! It was physically connected to the airport, convenient, and ... just plain cool. Quiet, nice, bad breakfst buffet, but the Hong Kong airport is the nicest we've ever been in. Amazing restaurants and a beautiful structure. It was nice to just wheel our luggage from the airport into the hotel. How cool is THAT? :o)

Yes, but only when I get them on Priceline. I stayed at the Hyatt inside the Pit airport for $27 and was upgraded to the concierge level with free breakfast, the web rate for a standard room was $169. I do this for my parents often as they live about 2 hours from the airport. Again, I use Priceline for an airport hotel when we have an evening flight and don't want to be without a room to rest up before our journey. Definitely worth it.
We also paid full price ($99) to use the Miami airport hotel for 4 hrs becuase hubby was sick after a cruise once, again pricey but worth it to be inside the airport without the hassle. |
Recently I had a very early flight from Vancouver and opted for the Fairmont Vancouver Airport. I wished we had come three days earlier! Incredible beds, great bathrooms, fabulous hotel. What a super decision it proved to be. Plus nothing beats not having to return the rental car and make the mad dash, we just waltzed downstairs and through to Customs.
