Airline tickets to maui -- help!

Help! I was about to reserve my tickets for a flight to Maui from the midwest and the ticket price increase by several hundred dollars for the flight. Does anyone have any suggestions for websites that have cheap tickets? I've looked at Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia.

Thanks!

Lisa,
I have found that airfares sometimes dip midweek. Have you tried www.cheaptickets.com? We purchased a ticket to Maui for my father and it was the lowest at that time.

Good luck!

Gem

When are you trying to fly?

Lisa Sep 22nd, 2002 07:22 PM

Yes, I've tried cheaptickets.com (forgot to mention that in my original post). It was lower than going through the airline website, but I'd like to get a little lower rate. I'm looking at going October 29 through November 7.

Lisa

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Lisa

Lisa,
Monday is the worst day to buy tickets, don't get impatient, wait a day or two, then try again. Logon to Orbitz or whatever, every day until you see the price you want. You might also want to ask a travel agent for a package deal, if you're looking into a hotel as well. Good luck , you'll love maui!

Marti,
Why do you say that Monday is the worst day to buy tickets? I can't say that I've ever noticed a particular spike in airfares on Mondays. Just curious.

Lisa,

I have a couple of suggestions, try the airline websites directly. We have used Delta several times and had good luck with airfares.

Also talk to a local travel agent, sometimes they can get you even better fares and last minute deals. Also try www.libertytravel.com a good travel agency with offices all over the country. They have always done a good job for us.

Good luck.

tweedy

We got our tickets to Maui direct from the East Coast last week for $620 per ticket on Delta.

Hey, you didn't tell us when you were traveling. We're going in October.

Lisa Sep 23rd, 2002 07:24 PM

I will be going at the end of October.

Try www.ata.com and www.pleasanthawaiian.com

Also fares change at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesdays, so check fares on Tuesdays.

If you are leaving from a city that has Apple Vacations, you might get a cheaper fare through them. You have to go through a travel agent. We're leaving Thursday for Maui and just got airfare and a car through them because we're using a timeshare week. Airfare was only $440 from Phoenix.

Lisa, I'm a travel agent and I have just recently been putting together a package for a client to Oahu through a tour company. I found the airfares to be significantly lower (several hundred)through the tour company than when I priced them out seperately on the web - not sure why. The only thing is that the tour company won't let you purchase air seperately, you'd have to purchase accommodations, too. Something to consider, too, is that if you purchase the package through the tour company, you can get travel insurance on the entire trip for just $26 per person giving a full refund for any reason up to the day before you travel. If you purchase tickets on the web, you either get no refunds or exchanges for any reason or you pay penalties plus fare differences. So, in your case, I, too recommend a travel agent, for those two key reasons. If you're interested, email me and I could price it out for you. Good luck and have a great trip!

See if you can get a fly/drive package through a travel agent. I shopped for air from San Francisco to Maui a while back and it was running about $800 per person. Air and car package came to $880 for two!
