Since you mentioned Myrtle Beach as a convenient starting point for you, I'd recommend signing up for Spirit Airlines' $9 Fare Club. They list a handful of dates each month where you can fly between two destinations for $9, $19, $29, etc. Because the sale dates are fixed, it works best for people with flexible travel schedules. My retired parents check it every month and book spontaneous trips to Florida and Myrtle Beach based on the dates that are on sale...lots of destinations in the Caribbean and Southwestern US as well, for slightly more $$.
